upgrading system to Gigabyte m/b - a few queries by
Iain Robinson
I'm ditching my Abit KT7-Raid and 1.1GHz TB and thinking of going for a
Gigabyte GA-7N400-L1 and a 2500+ Athlon XP (333MHz Barton core) with PC2700
RAM as it's a reasonably priced combination. I just have a few questions
before I get the credit card out;
1. Does anyone have any comments, good or...

Difficulties dismounting a Socket7 heatsink/fan w/plasticclamp by
Xeno Antares
=A1Hola!
I own a Socket-7 MoBo (GA-586VX). Once upon a time I had to replace a
quality CPU fan/heatsink-combo having a metal clamp by a replacement
combo. That replacement incorporated a plastik-clamp. It required a
lot of sheere force to be applied to the socket.
Now -- wanting to replace the...

put old hard disk on new MB by
Peter
Hi,
I am going to being installing my old hard disk, which has Windows XP onto a
new motherboard w/ CPU. As you know, extreme changes in hardware
configuration for an Windows 2000 or XP computer, will result in a "Stop"
error.
Is there anyway to avoid the "Stop" error?
thanks

Best partition size by
Davek
With a large drive (120GB or larger) with NTFS and XP what
would you recommend as the best way to divide up these
drives for optimum performance? I've read where it's a good
idea to place XP on a partition smaller than 20GB, but what
about the rest of the drive....for optimum performance

IBM Thinkpad screen problems by

A friend of mine gave me her laptop, a IBM ThinkPad i Series Model 1161 with
screen problems. The screen appears very greenish and sometimes pink/purple
flickering. At first I thought it is a typical videodriver problem and
installed all the latest drivers. I soon found out though that the...

Questions from a "not so current" PC Builder... by

The last PC I built was about 3 years ago, my current Tyan Tiger 133 with dual
P3 850MHz cpu's. It has 512MB in it (4x128MB PC133).
Needless to say, I'm ready to upgrade. But, I need a little assistance to be
brought up on the speed of things.
I am looking at the following:

Do all ATi's have pinouts for external svideo/av by
KA Turner
Hello
I have a 4m ATI vid card and I dislike paying 30 bucks plus s/h for adding
ram to make it 8m. It is in my Sony Vaio and has a header on the card for an
external module to provide a/v and SVIDEO outs/ins. The header looks like
an old timey lpt header on an AT board.
Did all early ATI's...

A couple of years back, someone was asking about disabling onboard VGA

My question is this: Did anyone succeed and if so, how?
I want to install a TNT2 Tornado and am having problems.

Scandisk by
Crimson*
Win2K doesn't have scandisk. It uses Checkdisk. It's usually best to let
it run, but it will tell you to press a key to skip it just before it
starts.
If you're talking about WinME (or just about any 9x OS) use MSCONFIG to
disable it.
