Greetings:
We purchased an HP EVA 3000 about a year ago and currently have it connected
only to an HP ES40 running OpenVMS. We have just purchased an ES47 to replace
the ES40 and thought we could just move the fibre cables from the old server
to the new server, change the WWIDs in Command View...

Brocade / Cisco interop issue by
Jon Metzger
Hey folks. This might be a long shot but I'm hoping there might be a
Brocade guru out there that has some idea about the problem I'm seeing.
We've got an all Cisco MDS Fibre Channel fabric and someone has
purchased a Dell blade server with 2 Brocade 3014 14-port switches in
it. We created a...

Destroying Old Media by
Yoann Roman
Perhaps an odd question... We've found a set of really old DAT and DDS
backup tapes that we have neither the backup software nor the drives to
read/write. However, labels indicate these may contain sensitive data.
How would I go about destroying these w/o investment or illegal...

How long do you expect your SAN hardware to last? by
Guy Dawson
We're looking to buy a SAN having previously used HP Proliant servers
with internal storage. We're doing this primarly for the higher levels
of resilience offered by SANs.
Our last two servers were ML530s with space for 14 drives. We've
been in the habit of keeping each ML530 in service for 3...

Don't know how this idea escaped my mind, but the other thing is to buy a commerical degausser. Make sure they one you buy offers a field strong enough to erase the tapes you are erasing. If they're degaussed properly, you can throw them out with the rest of the hazardous materials. (You're not...

Let me answer this again, as I don't think the last one showed up in the right place.
IMHO, tape shredding is your only real answer.
You should use a commercial tape shredding solution. They're availalbe from your offsite vaulting vendor (e.g. Iron Mountain). They will give you a certificate of...

Disk to Disk Backup is Very Slow, Solutions ? by
Jay
We got 2 MS Win 2003 Servers with RAID5 on a GIG-E Port / GIGE Switch.
Its taking on average 6 Min to move 1 GB of File betwen servers. I am
looking at the network utliszation and its very low, so the issue might be
wiht the disks, how do i narrow down this issue ?
Thanks
