Laptop for backup storage ? by Grendal[_7_]
I have an Acer 3680 laptop that I am rebuilding and I can get a 160 gb drive for under $50. Is it practical to use this laptop as a means of backing up my two 80 gb desktops? Really, I have only 100 gb of data to backup. Thanks. How might I best do this? Will it be too slow? -- Grendal

Compaq Presario 6000 random reboots by rhox
For some reason my mom's computer keeps resetting randomly, even when it's idle. I don't know what, and I even removed a second hard drive that I had put in it hoping that it would give more power to the rest of the hardware, but that didn't change a thing, it still resets. Any suggestions? I'm...

CDrom etc. - why the audio cable? by Paul Jones
I've been installing CD/DVD reader/writer units in the PCs of friends and family for a while now (easy once I'd sussed "master" and "slave" ha ha) but I'm intrigued as to why sometimes they come with a tiny "audio cable". It looks like one end goes in the unit and the other in either the sound...

HP Pavillion dv6150 does not recognize CD/DVD by ritter197
My HP Pavillion dv6150us does all of a sudden not recognize the CD/DVD drive. I deleted the driver, re-installed it. Did not work. I went back to Windows XP Restore and restored it to 1/20/2007, when I bought the otherwise wonderful laptop. It still did not recognize the drive. In Device...

Duron 650 Unreliability by Wayne Marsh
I've recently swapped in a Duron 650 to replace a burned-out Duron 750 in an old-ish computer. Since this, I've been experiencing a lot of unreliability; random crashes, XP blue screens of death in seemingly random modules - sometimes the computer won't even boot past the BIOS screen. I'm at a...

Newbie Verilog ques: generate/endgenerate by Sumanta Guha
Hi: I want to code up a realistically large memory unit with registers made of D-flipflops. The Palnitkar book is my main reference and the D-flipflop code I can get there. And I see in Ch. 7 he discusses the generate/endgenerate construct which I see as the way to save on typing in all of the...
