Having trouble cloning a bootable laptop hard disk by
Bob Weissman
What is the secret to cloning a laptop hard drive for Windows XP?
My HP Pavilion notebook's drive is starting to die, but still mostly
runs. I would like to clone it exactly onto an identical drive and
replace it.
I have tried DriveImage 7.0.3, which almost works - it appears to make
an exact...

24-pin Power Supplies: What's going on? by
aether
Why aren't retailers specifying whether the power supply is 24-pin or
not? Check out newegg.com; there's no way to tell. I've gone to
multiple online stores, and they simply don't list it. I'd like to find
a list of which power supplies are ATX 2.0 (24-pin). As of now, I can
only guess, or attempt...

Help! New computer abruptly shuts off. by
Dave Z.
I hope someone out there can point me in the right direction. I just
put together a new system and it is shutting off abrubtly for no
apparent reason.
The shutoff occurs during moderate to normal use, but has not yet
happened while idling. Heavy use (gaming, encoding, etc.) does not
increase the...

PopeSystem experiences general hardware failure by
Yibbels
ROME (EP) - The machine generally referred to as "the pope" has
experienced a general system failure. Technicians on the scene
were heard making remarks such as "this thing is hosed", and
"the warranty's expired, tough **** I guess", as they discussed
whether the hardware should be scrapped or used...

To all modem users! by

Hi!
I have a request for modem users. I'm looking for a modem with voice
functions which is 100% TAPI compatible - it means such a modem is able to
play sound directly to modem (telephone line) and record sound from
telephone line to a for example harddisk.
To test if a modem is capable of doing...

Question: 160GB HD = 125GB usable space? by
need4greed
I recently purchased a WD1600JB for use with my old P4 1.6 system.
After creating partition and installing XP, I noticed XP only
recognize the HD as being 125GB. I double checked in CMOS/BIOS and the
drive was picked up as 160GB.
Is this normal to lose so much room? and for what? In the past when...

Large disks on old computer by
dr
Hi,
I'm thinking of building a (cheap) RAIDed file server using an old
computer, a controller card and a bunch of disks. As there is
sometimes difficult for an old computer to recognize large disks I
would like to ask you for some advise.
What are the requirements for the motherboard/BIOS to see...

Overclocking by
David
Ok, so I'm a relative newbie to the whole hardcore PC people. I'm
trying to learn as much as I can because I would loke to be
a...ummmm...experiencedbie? Anyway, the term "overclocking" is used a
whole lot these days, and I have no idea what it means. What does it
mean?

Scanner has no on/off switch by
Michael P Gabriel
Hello!
I have an Epson 2480 scanner that does not have an on/off switch. In
its stead, I use a separate surge protector just for the scanner, thus
giving it its own on/off switch.
Any techies out there to tell me if I'm doing right or wrong. My
scanner is still under warranty.
Thanks folks,

HDD overheating by

Hi, all
In my computer I have 3 HDDs (6.4, 13.6 and 120GB) one on top of the other
in a mid tower case. Out of nowhere I got a blue screen with a caption
saying the computer could not access c:\ drive. It could not be a bad
cable, because I installed the 120GB a few days earlier with a new...

Can I fabricate my own USB power cable? by

Hi all. Here's the situation:
I bought a Panasonic Toughbook CF-T2 laptop computer recently. It's
an awesome small light laptop. But it has no built-in optical drive.
The much more expensive W2 does, but I didn't buy one of those because
of the cost. What I did buy, however, was a NU-Tech...

Optiplex GX1 needs reset by

I've got an Optiplex GX1 that's locking up on the BIOS screen. The load
bar gets about 1/5th across, and the system just freezes. I unplugged
the system, pulled out the CMOS battery, and held the power button down
for twenty seconds -- as far as I can tell, this should have reset the...
