@Backup, Virtual Backup, etc. by
D
Anyone has any experiences with either @Backup or Virtual Backup type
of services?
Aside from somewhat steep prices for larger size of data, can anyone
point out any other drawback? These complanies been around for quite a
while, but I can't get any sense of how large they are and how viable
is...

Low-end SAN performance: EMC AX100 by
Steve Cousins
We are needing to orient our data storage towards a SAN and we are
thinking of going with two 3 TB AX100's, and a 16 port switch. We have
6 Linux compute servers that currently need to access the two storage
units, however not all servers need access to both AX100's. We plan to
add at least two...

Brightstor caloggerd process running wild on linux. How do I tame it? by
Tim
Hi,
I'm running Brightstor Arcserve Backup 9 on a RedHat ES 3.0. My
average load on this duel processor server is over 1 and the process
causing this is the caloggerd deamon. It's always using 24.9% CPU
when I view it in using top. The next process is recorded is only
0.2% CPU.
Another thing...

Estimating RAID 1 MTBF? by
ohaya
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to calculate/estimate the
overall MTBF of a RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration? I'm just looking for
a simple, "rule-of-thumb" type of calculation, assuming ideal
conditions.
I've been looking around for this, and I've seen a number of...

systems (mostly on WinXP, but other Windows as well as Linux
platforms) in an incremental fashion for backup purposes. Any

Raid 1 reliability by
Neil Charlton
Sorry if this post seems a little naive but I don't do a lot with hard
drives.
I currently own a single (non SATA) drive computer running XP. I do a fair
bit of work on some prototype PCI boards. Occasionally, something like a PCI
card (video particularly) causes a lock up and on reboot the...

Windows NAS solutions by
Chris Howard
Hi,
we are possibly looking to replace a Windows NAS server (vendor shall
remain nameless for now), with an HP NAS box.
On our current boxes, whenever there is a major code update the
operation involves reimaging (effectively ghosting) the server from
CD. - Any data on the box is wiped. - This is...

Programmatically managing SAN/NAS by

Hi All,
I failed to get much information from the Internet, it would be great
if you can help me out.
We are working on a project which involves archiving/copying/taking
backups onto the storage devices such as SAN or NAS
programmatically(using C#). As we do not have any of these devices
right now...

I've heard lots of FUD about the EMC Clariion/CX-series catching a virus
since they boot windows and sit on a network. Has anyone had a EMC
system get a virus?

EMC Clariion w/ SATA disks purchase advice please by
- C -
Hi,
my company is looking at using Clariion with SATA disks for research quality
storage. This means we want cheap, but still good performance. The nature of
the application is to do sequential reads of many average size 3GB flat
files, say 1TB at a time. So cache on the controller is useless. The...

storage management tools by
alan
Has anyone had any experience with storage management tools like CA,
Tivoli, Creek Path or AppIQ. We're considering one of these for our
multi-vendor SAN. The vendors all promise they can do everything,
including provisioning, and they are simple to use and deploy. The
demos look nice but I'm...

beginner, w/low cost question: by
news
I am trying to understand my options for a project that requires a lot of
low-cost storage,
but limited access. It will be a low-usage streaming video application.
The video will
not need a SLA guarantee, but I would have to find a way to recover *when*
disk(s)
crash.
I was thinking that I could...
