How to test a PSU? by
Doc[_2_]
I have a PC Power and Cooling 470W unit that's a few years old but
hasn't had a lot of mileage on it and the rig it was in didn't come
near to stressing its limits. It was modestly pricey when I got it so
I figure it's worth seeing if it's still working the way it's supposed
to. If I want to ensure...

31 Terabytes of storage? by
Terry Wilson
Isn't Google Great?
If Firewire supports 63 devices ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1394 )
and you got 500 GB external drives (
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=102653 )
could you build a system with 31 Terabytes of storage? (more with USB)
Granted, cost of 31...

Data recovery problem by
sergio96w7
I posted last week about my computer (15" pbook g4 1.33 GHz)
crashing. I called Mac outfitters today to see how the repairs/stauts
was on my machine. They said that the hard drive needs replaced as
well as the optical drive (I just had a new optical drive installed 6
months ago!). They said they...

an idiot building a computer by
guy
Hi,
I am getting a system together. It's my first computer in many years
and I decided to build it myself. For convenience's sake, I'm getting
everything from Newegg. So, since I don't know as much as I should to
pull this off, I was wondering if some of you who actually know what
they're doing...

Dual Channel memory question by
NewHat!
The last stick of RAM that I bought was SD so I haven't been updated in a
while. Anyway, I plan on buying both a motherboard and memory with dual
channel support. Do I have to have TWO sticks of 256 ram to get dual
channel, or can I just have one 512 stick? (I'm not sure if the "dual"
refers to...

Rene Lamontagne
I have just purchased a new LG IPS236V 23" monitor a few days ago, I have it
hooked up to an Asus Sabertooh X58 I7 950 CPU and with an Asus 5850
Videocard.
It is a really good fast setup and I am more than thrilled with the monitor,
Both the Videocard and monitor have HDMI connectors, My...

Slow booting problem solved - vnbt.386 - Ethernet card by
[email protected]
The long 60+ second boot time in a reconfigured computer (see original
message "Slow booting, 1/2/05") was caused in part by the 24 seconds it
took to load vnbt.386, even though it's only 86KB.
Browsing around the internet, indications are that this has something to
do with waiting for a DHCP...

O/T Memory question by
oO
Hi,
I have 512mb in my PC and think it is time to upgrade with a bit more
(probably add a gig). I want to make sure I'm getting the right type.
Current memory has a label which says:

Pretty Good Experience Building New PC by
Steven O.
Hi, all. Since there are postings here all the time with questions
about what kind of system to put together, I thought I'd share my
pretty good experience. After tons of research, I realized I had no
idea exactly which parts to buy, so I went to a local computer store,
MicroCenter, and worked...

Like your USB flash drive? by
John Doe
Anybody have a flash drive and don't like them? Somehow I doubt it.
I just received another, going from 256 MB to 1 GB (much faster, and
cheaper than the 256). I'm giddy. Yes there are larger sizes, but I
like to buy at the price/performance point.
Looks like the old annual prediction about DVD...

Why do I want a 64 bit machine? by
Xeno Chauvin
For 10+ years I've intermittently built my own machines.
It was so easy when the choices were a 486, or a 486DX.
When bus speeds were all the same (66 MHz) and the CPU had a
(pretend) relative number.
Now AMD has XP, Sempron, 64, and 64FX.
I've tried reading the spec's but fell asleep.
Pricing...

Video card and wireless PCI card questions by

I've got a homebuilt Athlon XP 1800+ on an Epox 8KHA+ mobo with 256 megs of
PC 2100 ram. Video card is a PNY GeForce 3 TI 200.
The video is fine for what I do now, but I think I can keep this system
peppy for a few more years just by upgrading the video. What's a good
recommendation that won't...

Will the OS-X from Apple that ported to Intel CPUs and boards runon AMD-64? by

Apple is going to switch over to Intel processers in a year or so.
They already modified their OS to run on Intel P4 CPUs. From what
I've read on the Net, this modified Intel version of OS-X has no
restrictions at all -- it runs on ordinary PC hardware. Does
anybody know if this OS-X modification...
