Chances are high that you have received a phish in your e-mail within

learning computer architecture (books? kits?) by
Anon
I want to spend a few months studying computer architecture, starting
with the electronics.
The knowledge that i'm starting with, is that I just know logic gates
(on paper), i've done some karnough maps before, and I have designed a
full adder in VHDL using XiLinx. So my knowledge is small, and I...

Differences in Geforce 6-series lineup, am I right here? by
Anonymous Joe
Been trying to figure out what's what, and have decided than economically
only a 6600GT, 6800LE, or 6800 is feasible.
They are all priced about the same, with the 6800LE being about the
cheapest. Is it really as simple as the more expensive one is the best
logic?
From what I can tell:
6600GT =...

Is something getting shorted here? by
Anonymous Joe
I've built a PC out of working parts. Sometimes it boots, but most of the
time it doesn't.
I've tried chaning a lot of things, such as chaning around the RAM, removing
everything except video & 1 DIMM (I have 3), changing the BIOS battery,
removing screws that hold the motherboard onto the case,...

In Search of Quiet PC, Will This Work Well? by
Anonymous Joe
Just trying to build a little cheap PC that won't do much more than playback
Divx backups on a TV (I have most the parts, really just need a video card,
and some cooling stuff).
It's only going to be an Athlon 900, 320MB RAM, 40Gig single platter HD
(ATA/100), and either a 54x CD-ROM or DVD-ROM...

Dual Channel RAM, how does that really work? by
Anonymous Joe
How does dual channel ram actually work. I know it makes up a 128-bit
channel when you use two dimms placed in the correct locale, but what does
that really mean to the two dimms? Is it similar to RAID for hard drives,
so that if you store, for example, a 1mb exe file into ram as do all
programs,...

CPU makes high-pitched noise by
anonymous_c
I have a VIA C3 533MHz fanless CPU. I'm using it as a server. However,
when the CPU starts to do something, it emits a high-pitched noise.
It's not loud, but noticeable. I can handle it -- it's no louder than
my PC fans. But I'm curious as to why it's happening, and if I can stop
it.
I've ruled...

Is there a way to tell if an Intel CPU can do 64-bit or not? by
Ant
Hi.
I have a few years old Pentium 4 machine, but I don't know if it can do
64-bit. Is there a way to check without installing and running the
installed OS? Can I use a LiveCD (which one?), look in BIOS/CMOS
(didn't see anything to mention it), etc.?
Thank you in advance. :)
