Interesting read about upcoming K9 processors by
Yousuf Khan
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20040726PR202.html
This interview with Tyan president Symon Chang provided the following
quotes:
"Around 2006, when the market moves to AMD's next generation of chips, you
will be able to go over 8-way. What I mean is that with eight sockets, and
dual cores, you...

Microsoft shortens Windows name by
Yousuf Khan
The previously named Windows XP and 2003 "64-bit edition for 64-bit extended
systems" has now just been shorted to "for X64". Eg. Windows XP Pro for X64
or Windows Server 2003 for X64.
Looks like Microsoft has decided on X64 as the universal moniker for all
X86-64 marketing names.

Gaming AMD vs Intel by
[email protected]
I read the following article
http://tinyurl.com/8s2aa
on amdzone.com.
Extremetech looks at gameplay experience comparing AMD and Intel CPUs.
I'm surprised they used DDR2 533, but then of course if they were on
the real ball they would be using faster than DDR400 using the Lanparty

Vista disables Cool'N'Quiet on some motherboards by
YKhan
AMD's Cool'n'Quiet support is supposed to be natively built into Vista
(no need for drivers). However, they are finding that C'n'Q setups
that were working fine under XP, no longer work under Vista. People
have been waiting for BIOS updates for their motherboards, and some
have found that the BIOS...

Pretty good explanation of x86-64 by HP by
Yousuf Khan
I found this whitepaper from HP to be pretty good, it is surprisingly
candid, considering HP was the coinventor of the Itanium. It does a
pretty good job of explaining and summarizing the similarities and
differences between AMD64 and EM64T, and their comparison to the
Itanium's IA64 instruction...

Hello
I have ordered a AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 1.8GHz chip and an Elite K8M800-M2 Skt
754 motherboard for it, with the intention of building up a 64-bit machine
for general stuff like games, programming etc. I've also ordered a fairly
cheap (but powerful - 500W) power supply off ebuyer for...

WinXP-64 and Athlon64 by
Peter Tran
Hi,
I've got a Athlon64 3200+ and wanted to know if it would be worth it to
download the WinXP-64 beta release from Microsoft?
1) First question is, does the new OS also require 64-bit drivers for all
my periphs? Will the 32-bit drivers also work?
2) Second question, although the OS will be...

Dual Core Comparison by
Cal Vanize
Background:
I'm in the process of building a new computer for a friend who is a
rather demanding business power-user.
The computer will be used mostly for internet browsing / email, business
applications, and some light gaming. The game that would probably
present the most CPU burden would be MS...

The future of PCs by
Tim
64 bit architecture, multiple cores, it's all wonderful stuff. But as
everyone probably knows, without a mainstream 64bit OS with solid drivers,
without 64bit apps optimized for multithreading, it's all a bit premature. I
know that this technology has its advantages now but when will it be...

I'm looking at the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ for my next PC. I have heard that

powernow on amd64 by
Vermyndax
I currently have Cool N Quiet disabled in my BIOS. I didn't think it
would have that big of an impact on my processor's health, so I switched
it off. With WinXP 64-bit about to come out, I'm rethinking this. Is
there anyone using it and what benefits has it provided you (if any)?

Advantages of going XP64 by
Black Shuck
Is there any benefits loading XP 64bit version instead of normal 32bit XP?
It seems driver support is less than complete. I only have 1GB of RAM
in my AMD64 3500+ system, so do not need the extended memory addressing.
Is there any other benefit of a 64bit operating system? or is it snake oil?
