Cannot access new Seagate external HD by
Terry Pinnell[_4_]
I already have a couple of external HDs on this XP Pro PC: a WD 1 TB
and a WD 2 TB. I've just added another, a Seagate 'Expansion' 2 TB
3.5" desktop HD (£60). It arrived impressively fast from Amazon. But I
reckon it's going to have to go back just as quickly, because it
doesn't work ;-(
As you...

Dock drives never spin down; Can't be booted from by
micky
I'm running XPProSP3 and I have a Thermaltake BlacX dual dock with 2
bare internal-type drives in it, that connects to the computer with USB,
and I use each for an almost** complete backup it seemed like a good
idea. If my internal drive fails, I just take one of the backups out of
the dock and...

external hard drive by
dilbert firestorm
bit of a problem here. I've picked Western Digital 2TB 2.5" hard drive
for an external drive.
problem: its 15mm high. Can't find an external case with esata that can
take this one. Ones I find take 9mm & 12.5mm height drives.
would I be better off getting a 3.5" drive and external case...

brand new drive clicks very lightly by
micky
What does it mean when an almost new HDD clicks very quietly? On
startup a few times, and very rarely when it's not startup, I can hear
it, but barely.
I have a bare drive in a BlacX dock. I just bought it a month ago,
though I've run it 24/7 for that month.

external hard drive case by
firestorm31
anyone know what brand external hard drive case has the external SATA port?
this for my laptop which has a external SATA port.
I'd like to get a 2.5 notebook drive as a external back up drive.
the external cases I've seen are all with USBs ports.

BAckup harddrive, how many partitions by
micky
I don't save videos or anything really big (I only hae 100Gig of files
now) so when I ended up with a 1.5T harddrive for a backup drive, I
thought I'd put both internal HD's on the same external backup.
Plenty of space. I also put my laptop and the laptop of a friend's,
(that I was fiddling with...

Making two partition copies in turn by
micky
I'm maintaining two (maybe even 3) copies of my C: drive.
I've been copying everything from C to F and to H, but I'm thinking,
maybe it would be better to copy C to F and then F to H.
It would lessen the wear on the C drive, especially when I copy every
single file (except the ones I don't...

Can someone explain why my Pendrive cap diminished ? by

Sandisk Cruzer Blade 8 Gb USB, brand new.
I looked at properties, and it said
FAT 32
Total Cap 7.896.956.928 bytes
But there was some "SanDiskSecureAccess" software and PDFs, so I
right-clicked and formatted FAT32

How to setup a caching SSD? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
So a friend of mine had a small 60GB SSD on his system, which just got
all filled up very quickly (obviously). So we replaced that with a nice
roomy 500GB SSD. Now there is also a 1TB hard drive on the system. Was
wondering if it's possible to repurpose the old 60GB SSD as a caching
SSD, to...

them Maxtor sure were noisy clunkers by

I was using a 2009-vintage Nehalem PC, and suddenly the hard drive
starts whacking itself to death. You could hear it 3 rooms away.
I shut down and opened the case.
Drive was a Maxtor 160 GB, so it was probably a fews years old when
put in that PC, that would have been a premium PC at the...
