Securely wiping a usb drive by
[email protected]
I bought a usb drive recently, but am going to return it because it is
too slow. I did copy some files containing personal info onto the
drive though, so I want to make sure I wipe it off. Is it enough to
format the drive? Or should I fill up the drive with non-personal
data to make sure that my...

Dropped a running hard drive: Wiping data on it? by
C++ Newbie
Whilst using a USB2.0 - IDE/SATA bridge on a powered-up hard drive,
it fell off the table while files were being copied into it. Windows
then started complaining immediately about failed delayed writes.
Trying to power it on now just results in it powering up temporarily.
One can hear/feel the...

I've got a Packard Bell PC that is a couple of years old and I want to
upgrade the memory as it's running a little slow now (and memory is
pretty cheap). How can I be sure that the memory I buy is suitable for
my PC/motherboard?
Many thanks

Dead hard drive? by

A few weeks ago my computer started acting up - running slowly,
frequently crashing, etc. I figured that the best solution was to
reinstall XP (Home edition at this point). I had an XP Pro disc
available, and so I tried reinstalling from that. The installer kept
having various problems (usually...

Can old software damage CPU? by
[email protected]
I use a very old program called QPW (Quattro Pro) and it uses 51% of
the CPU (yes 51%, not 50% or 52%). I have a Core 2 Duo E6750, and most
of the stuff I use hardly reaches 10%, even AVI movies. I used the
Asus temp monitor utility and found that when the PC is idle the CPU
is at 32ºC (90ºF), for...
