i2000 Installation Kansas City MO by
Will
I'm looking for a vendor who can do an installation on an ADIC i2000 in
Kansas City, MO, and who knows Comvault under Windows. Unlike ADIC, which
would just install the physical library, I need a vendor who can shrink wrap
both the hardware install and do initial software integration and test. ...

WAFL writing accross the raid group in a aggregate by
Raju Mahala
I believe that if a aggregate has more than one raid group then data
writing will be accross all the raid group in horizontal fashion. So
if have bigger aggregate then better throughput due to more spindles.
First any comment on this. Whether I am right or not ?
If I check disk utilizations...

RAID 1 Mirror From Two SMB Devices? by
Will
Does any vendor sell software for Windows that would make a RAID 1 mirror
from two SMB NAS devices on the back end? Performance on NAS has gotten
so good with gigabit ethernet that there is little reason to prefer SANs for
most applications. What I would like to remove from the equation is...

Fine Tuning Linux for backup/production coexistence. by
Todd
Hi,
I am running a CentOS 4 box with 4 terabytes of data on it. It houses
most of my users' data, so it is constantly being used.
I'm running the Networker 7.3.2 client on the box, as well. I have
established a seperate backup network successfully - all data is
backed up over this secondary...

ILM and Full Text Search by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm looking into various ILM products such as those from Kazeon, EMC,
NeoPath, etc. One question that comes up is how these products behave
when a client does a full-text search against a volume that contains
data that's been migrated away.
From what I understand, a file access causes...

Backup data format by
[email protected]
Hi,
What formats are the full and incremental dumps from a NetApp OnTAP
system in? As in, is the backup data in some proprietary NetApp
format?
Also, what is the difference between NDMP and SnapMirror?

snapshot reserve space at aggregate level by
Raju Mahala
Start with DataOnatp 7G aggregate comes in picture so now raid groups
are part of aggregate instead of volume if we configure aggregate.
Earlier with traditional volume we reserve some percentage of space
out of the volume for snapshot and this is same case with flex volume
also. But aggregate also...

How often do you recycle LTO1 tapes? by
Alexander Skwar
Hello!
One of the responsibilites in my new job is, to take care of
the backup of our Solaris servers. We're using LTO 1 tapes to
hold the backup.
When I now had a look at the Netbackup software, I saw that
some of our tapes are quite old (from 2003) and have been
mounted up to 500 times.

Managing data sprawl by
[email protected]
Over last couple of years the certain types of data is exploding in
our enterprise (probably true for others too). These include source
code, binary images (and many many variations of those), all kinds of
documents (word, excel), wikis etc. These are kept like regular files
(available via NAS)...

Backup Program With Push Architecture by

their backups to a central server using an agent technolgy rather than
having the central server contact the distributed agents and pull the data?

Sustained throughput in a Legato NetWorker environment by

I'm toying with a scenario where I want to backup several terabytes
daily in a NetWorker enviornment.
Some facts,
Clients: several hundred of many different OSes
Data volume: about 20 TB needs to backed up during a lot less than 10
hours, I'll probably aim for 5 hours. That's 4 TB/hour or approx...
