muragik
"Why did the chicken cross the road?" is one of the oldest and most famous joke riddles still in use in the English language. The most common answer to this riddle is "To get to the other side." When asked at the end of a series of other riddles, whose answers are clever, obscure, and tricky, this...

Hobbiest SAN suggestions by
[email protected]
I'd like to play around with a small inexpensive SAN at home. Storage
capacity or performance is not a concern something like a 4 or 5 year
old EMC, HP or IBM box. Any suggestions?

Believe it or not, backup options have really increased beyond the
usual. I work for a magazine about data storage and we are constantly
running articles on new options. It's free, if you want to see some of
the latest thinking: www.storagemagazine.com (you'll have to register,
but not to worry, no...

iscsi reading materials? by

Does anyone have any book, manual, or website recommendations for
iSCSI? I'm starting from scratch with iSCSI but have an FC SAN
background. Borders and Barnes/Knoble have a few titles that run from
$80-$120 that they offered to order for me, but I'd prefer a
recommendation from someone that has...

Mixing SAN vendors by
mrs
Hi,
we want to connect different servers (HP, AIX, Windows, Solaris) with
different (!) HBA Ports to different (!) SANs - one port goes to a
CISCO SAN another port goes to a Brocade SAN.
(so we are not talking about mixing switches from different vendor in
the same fabric which of course would be...

Mr. Anderson
2 Raptor SATA 10.000 rpm on ichr5 raid0, Asus P4C800-E, Windows XP SP2 +
Intel Raid Application Accelerator.
When using HD Tach 3, I get a strange graphic, instead of a more of less
straight line slowly going down, I got plenty of up and downs on the
same 70-90 MB/s range...

How good is an EMC SAN? by
MQCarpenter
I am exploring SAN options at the office and keep reading that EMC is
the best. I am not doing FC, but am looking at a CX300i. How good is
this product compared to the cheaper HP, Lefthand, and other options?
Is their reputation worth the extra cost for maintenance, support, and
quality?

NAS Purchase options by

experience here.
This is a small office (75 Users), our needs are for 1TB or less on
RAID 5. We are a Windows 2003 AD shop and remote control is not
necessary.
I...
