Dimension 4800 non-existant? by
Thomas G. Marshall[_2_]
I cannot find support info (manual, etc.) for the Dimension 4800.
If you wander the click-maze of selecting the system it gets to the
4700's and then jumps past the 4800, as if it didn't exist.
Lemme know if anyone else sees this. I'm looking for memory
specifications.

Mini 910 LAN slow by
Ron Hardin
A new (refurbished) Mini 910, in transferring my working files over
via LAN, is reading them at a snail's pace. The LAN connector light
flashes once or twice a second instead of the usual continuously;
both ends of the connection in the Task Manager indicate about .05%
utilization of the...

Video Drivers by
No Name
I have a nvidia 8800 GTS and a nvidia 7900 GTX in my box.
WinXP SP2, Dell XPS desktop, circa 2006.
I am currently driving them both with old 97.92
drivers.
Nvidia recommends I install 180.48 for the 8800 and
178.24 for the 7900.

OT - Anti-Virus by
Von Fourche
My Trend Micro PC-Cillin is about to expire and renew automatically at
the end of
December. Is PC-Cillin considered a good anti-virus package right now or
has it been
surpassed? Anything better that updates reliably and is half way effective?
Thanks!

booting problems by
[email protected]
For months it has taken two or three tries to boot my Dell computer
with Vista every time I turn the unit on -- often with extended
periods when it is trying to repair itself. The IT people where I
work have not fixed the problem, so I have just learned to live with
it. However, now the system...

dell wallpaper by
Yvon[_2_]
I just received my dell studio slim this morning,
I really like it so far.
I had one or 2 wallpaer installed that looked really nice. Dark
simple.
I formated with the vista dvd and lost the wall paper.
Are they on the recovery partition?
I can't seem to find them there.
I would like to find them if...

Dimension 9100 with ATI Radeon x600 256MB - updated video drivers? by
Just me
I have a Dimension 9100 with ATI Radeon x600 256MB and video driver
version 6.14.10.6534 dated 04/14/2005. I have never updated the video
drivers because I haven't run into any situation that required it.
I'm curious if anyone else out there has this combination and if
you've updated the video...

Problem with Files Disappearing by
John Novicki Jr
I am going to put this out there, because it is unlike anything I have heard
prior, and don't know where to begin.
Customer calls me and says that files/programs are disappearing from his
hard drive (even system files). My first thought is hardware failure.
However, he states it is also...

Inspiron suddenly cant recognise charger by
[email protected]
I have an 8200 which suddenly cant recognise its 90 watt charger. It
pretends on POST that the charger isnt 90W and says it can only
operate at 70w and therefore in battery optimised mode which is
treackly slow. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the
charger. It doesnt overheat or...

Dell 670 workstation - SCSI cards by
[email protected]
Can an additional PCI SCSI card be installed in the 670, in addition
to the integrated U320 SCSI buss, to run external scanner, etc?
I read somewhere in the docs that only the integrated SCSI can
function at one time. The box has two U320 SCSI HDs.

What Have They Done to the Community Forums? by
Daddy[_3_]
Maybe I'm behind the times, but I've just had a look at the 'new,
improved' Dell Community Forums. They're awful!
In the first place, the number of Forums has been reduced, so each group
now covers many more topics than before.
Also, the Advanced Search options have been dumbed down, so now...

Benchmarks updated T8300 by
Ron Hardin
Added a T8300 in an Inspiron 1318 (=Vostro 1310) to the list.
It has a 3MB L2 Cache compared with the 4MB Cache on the T7300,
making it slower even though the clock is a good deal faster.

Vista Wireless Local Access Only by

Toying with Vista waiting for the XP Home CD to arrive;
how do you get wireless beyond Local Access Only?
Packets have been sent and received (a couple thousand),
it claims to be connected (non broadcasting WEP)
but refuses to see, or be seen by, other (XP) machines
on the network.

Grinding Sound From DVD Drive During POST by
Daddy[_3_]
I thought to ask this question here because I understand that Dell
customizes BIOSes (which makes sense.)
During POST the BIOS is apparently checking something in my DVD drive
because the drive emits a brief 'grinding' sound. I've always heard this
sound when my Dimension 4500 boots, but I...

Dells w/64 bit OS in Costco by

I was in Costco yesterday and while the wife was looking at jewelry, I
was cruising through the TVs and the PCs. I saw that they had a Dell
machine (forget the model #), but the thing that caught my eye was the
fact that Visa Home Premium 64 bit version was installed! I did not
expect to...
