Need rec. for a b/u UPS by
MZB
I have this old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop with a printer. The cable
modem and router is also connected to it.
Anyway, it continues to work great. It forms the base of a network (I
have 2 laptops). I have had the desktop system for probably 10 years and
an APC UPS connected to it for maybe 8...

Web cam and CPU speed by
Ron Hardin
I disabled a web cam in a Latitude 6400 and got a
7% benchmark speedup (CPU and RAM benchmark)
(In XP, go to system/hardware/drivers find the
webcam and select do not use this device, which
you can do without changing the driver or
anything)

From the crest of Olivet... by
E Bmums
"From the crest of Olivet, Jesus looked upon Jerusalem. Fair and
peaceful was the scene spread out before Him. It was the season of the
Passover, and from all lands the children of Jacob had gathered there to
celebrate the great national festival. In the midst of gardens and
vineyards, and...

Vostro 3750 start up by
programmernovice
I had an Inspiron, which allowed a BIOS setting for powering up
machine on a given schedule. Now I got a Vostro 3750 which will not
allow this. Is there any other way to power on the machine
automatically? All help appreciated.

Dimension 9150, Standby won't power harddrive down as before. by
paul8
I am still happy with my Dimension 9150. I use it several hours daily.
It has never let me down since I got it about 3 years ago.
But the fan and harddrives are getting a bit noisy.
Therefore I was pleased that it was totally quiet in standby mode.
Until I upgraded ram today. Now fan and drives...

External storage options, WAS transferring OS/data to new HD by
Dee
Thanks again to everyone who has responded in this thread. I
appreciate your collective wisdom.
Here's an update so far. As I was getting ready to install the new
drive, I heard the grinding noise from the PC again. With the cover
off the case I could tell immediately that it wasn't the old...

Precision Mobile Coupons??? by
No Name
I have been looking for a decent coupon for the M6600 for
over two months.
Does Dell ever give a reasonable discount on these machines?
They had a big one on the M4600, so that gave me hope.

transferring OS/data to new HD by
Dee
I have a Vostro 400 running WinXP SP2 with a Seagate HD that I think is
failing (weird buzzing, grinding noises). I'd like to put in a new
Western Digital drive and then copy everything over (OS and all data).
I have read there can be potential problems doing this, having to do
with the hidden...

Ghost in the machine by
JohnB
Hi -
I have a mystery. Every night, I put my system into hibernation by pressing
the power buttom (with a Dell XPS 8400 running XP pro). In the morning, the
computer is on. It happens every night for about 2 weeks now. I started
thinking perhaps I was sleepwalking, but no, the tape I placed...

DFS Laptop Battery by
GTS-NJ
I just purchased a laptop from Dell Financial services. This is the first
time I've bought a refurb from Dell. (I needed a laptop with the old PC
Card slot for a customer.)
I'm a little disappointed that it immediately reports the battery is
charging but nearing the end of it's useful life...

Intel laptop wireless staying connected? by
Ron Hardin
The Intel software seems to be unable to hold a
wireless connection, the problem being that when
it loses a connection at random it doesn't try to
reconnect, but instead waits for manual
intervention (disable and reenable the wireless
connection, usually does it).
There's no such problem with...

MySyncUp by
Tony[_14_]
I've just bought a new XPS laptop and one of the desktop icons is for
MySyncUp Files. I understand this is to do with Nero and although I've
downloaded the Manual am no wiser as to what it does. Deleting the icon is
to no avail as it just comes back. Do I need the program?

My XPS 15 laptop can only connect to my router when the network is unhidden.
I prefer to keep it hidden for security purposes. Is there a workaround

Vostro 1500 laptop memory by
Ed[_9_]
Just for the heck of it, I looked around for upgrade memory. I bought this
with 2GB in late 2007.
http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/Dell-memory/Vostro+Notebooks/Vostro+1500-upgrades.html
Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
....shows that 4GB is about $70. Generic elsewhere was...
