Computation slow with float than double. by
Michele Guidolin
Hello to everybody.
I'm doing some benchmark about a red black Gauss Seidel algorithm with 2
dimensional grid of different size and type, I have some strange result
when I change the computation from double to float.
Here are the time of test with different grid SIZE and type:

Apple using Intel processors by

Here's a rumour that's as old as the hills rivalling the "Dell will use
AMD" rumours in longevity. The latest: "Apple will use Intel" rumour.
This time the Wall Street Journal is propagating the rumour.

RDRAM PC800/ question.. by
heruti
Hi all,
I have a PC with Intel 850MV motherboard, and 256MB RDRAM
(2x128MB chips and two free RAM slots).
my question is threefold...
can I add just one 512MB RDRAM chip and then make a 768MB system?
or do I have to throw away the 128MB chips in any RAM upgrade except
adding 2 more 128MB chips?...

x86 Server Selection by
[email protected]
We're doing some basic research on how corporate customers evaluate
Intel/AMD servers. What we're trying to figure out is if vendor
characteristics (service, reliability, etc) are more important than
system characteristics (feeds & speeds) to real world customers. . We
are asking interested...

irmx info by
[email protected]
Hi,
I work with several irmx systems and wondered if I can change tape
backup to work over the network. I'd like to dump the contents of the
irmx system into a file on another computer rather than use the tape
drive. Can this be done? If so how do I find out the name of the
network device? The...

Return of the FDIV bug - Et tu, Apple? by
Email me at CS not Boole
We're just coming up on the tenth anniversary of Intel's Pentium
FDIV bug, which Intel said would be encountered once every 27,000
years and which I pointed out, on comp.sys.intel on 12/3/94, would
happen every few seconds when dividing small "bruised" integers,
a phenomenon confirmed a few days...

For any answer

Pentium-D 820 not compatible with 3rd party chipsets by
YKhan
Strangely, it's only the low-speed 2.8Ghz model 820 that's incompatible
in dual-core mode. Ironically, higher speed Pentium-D's are compatible.
Hard to say what could be so different between the low-speed and
high-speed P-D's.

How much cooler is Pentium D 820 than 830 or 840? by
Talkin Horse
The Intel page indicates maximum thermal design for the 820 (2.8 GHz) is 95
watts, versus 130 for the faster (3.0 GHz, 3.2 GHz) Pentium D's.
http://developer.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/216412.htm
In typical use, does this mean the 820 will be noticeably "cooler and
quieter"? Or is...

The great Pentium D-820 mystery -- incompatible with Intel nF4-SLI - why ?? by
John Lewis
For background see page 4 of the following article:-
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/pentiumd-820.html
There is a FUNCTIONAL problem with the Intel nF4-SLI chip-set if both
cores of the Pentium-D 820 are enabled. Applications crash or hang,
the motherboard re-boots... However, the...

Repost - How does LaGrande's off-switch work? by
Jeff Butler
I posted this question a while ago, and it went unanswered. Now that the
Pentium D has been released, maybe I'll have better luck.
Intel has gone on record stating that LaGrande technology will be disabled
when a LaGrande-capable system is shipped unless the customer specifically
requests that it...

Greetings,
Having trouble with a new build.
The would-be system boots, starts the BIOS, and then hangs at the
splash screen.
I can see the Video POST fly by, but then is just hangs on the Intel
