Disconnect from the Internet, now.
There, you're "safe".

future CPUs from AMD and Intel by
[email protected]
Looks like Ryzen has got Intel's complacent bowels unblocked.
They are bringing out an "i9" with 12 cores.
But AMD will be competing with "Threadripper" a 16-core beast.
Unfortunately, it seems that will use the 4000-pins server socket.
So I can't see it being cheap.

I'm looking to upgrade my 6 years old machine as it feels a little long
in the tooth when doing things like video re-encoding from x.264 to
x.265 (w/ Handbrake, most is only 720p but a few are 1080p and it takes
like 19h to do ONE 2.3GB 1080p movie)(the example is Space Battleship

Monitor advice by

This is a bit off topic, but I have a question that should benefit from answers here.
My main computer is usually turned on shortly after I get up in the morning and not
shut down until just before I go to bed at night. I've also been turning off the
monitor, but am wondering if it would be...

Almost all WannaCry victims were running Windows 7 by
Anonymous Remailer (austria)
One week after it first hit, researchers are getting a better
handle on how the WannaCry ransomware spread so quickly — and
judging from the early figures, the story seems to be almost
entirely about Windows 7.
According to data released today by Kaspersky Lab, roughly 98
percent of the...

Now imagine an after-market CPU cooler/fan(s), e.g. fins and attached
heat-wick to a pad to fit it. Most go on a presumption for a base

USB Controller/HUB by
Flasherly[_2_]
Ran into a new one (unrelated to new 8/core build). Mouse went
haywire in Windows. Checked mouse, its USB connections (cleaned usb
ports), restored OS serval times, reset BIOS. Lots of power on/offs.
Still a no go. Mad mouse on the loose, totally beserk, dangerously
so, with Windows OS...

Plunk.
Take a 10-yr-old vacuum cleaner, empty the dust canister, and stick in
new electronics into that filth. That's what my case in part feels
like now with a new MB/CPU/MEM. I really should tear it down, also,
when removing the stock CPU cooler, eventually for installing the
Hyper's (a...

I have an Adaptec ISA bus SCSI controller with an FDC chip on it. It allows me to boot from and use two floppy drives (non-SCSI) as if they were connected to the motherboard. It works fine in one of my motherboards but in the one I really want to use (Commell P4BWA) it just gives me a floppy error...
