Is this 181 GB drive on EBay a good deal or a bad deal? by
GMAN
In article , "Rita A. Berkowitz" wrote:

worth about $35.00, if that. Plus, this seller's feedback is terrible. I

A month ago to this day I posted a description of the following issue to
this newsgroup. I've just now returned to the issue and I'm still open
for any suggestions (excuse me for the article length but trying to
include all significant points).
1. In late May I implemented a "Windows Update" on a...

Is it 32 GB limit or...? by
Psi-Tau Paladin
Is it a single or master? It makes a difference with the WDs if you have
a single drive and leave it with the master pins enabled. It will hang
and fail to be found at least 9 times out of 10. If it is the only drive
on the chain then put the pins sideways across two master and...

Is XP hibernate flag stored in MBR? by
Jim
AFAIK, hibernation is nothing special, heck, I can hibernate W2K Pro on my 6
yr old AT machine (w/ only ATM support, not even ACPI) without a problem.
All hibernation does is dump your memory to a file, and upon rebooting, W2K
(or WinXP) sees the hibernation file on the root C:\ and uses it to...

Problem solved, thanks... by
Ke-vin
Thank to everybody who replied to my message!!!!
Finally, I solved the problem by just replacing the drive with 40 GB IBM
Deskstar, which does have the "32GB limit" jumper. With this jumper set on
the drive works OK.
Thanks again,
Andy

Trying to use xxcopy and xxcopy16 to backup a

My steps were...
From Win98, ran xxcopy c: d: /clone

Hard Drive not appearing in My Computer by
Jim
Apologies if this has been asked before, I am new to all of this.
I have a Maxtor 20GB Hard Drive 7200.
Manufactured in Feb 2001, and has worked fine until I did a computer restart
the other day. Suddenly it is not recognised, says no bootable drive. I
went to the Maxtor website and downloaded...

Does anyone know how to bring a down drive up in Adaptec Raid? by

I used Adaptec AAA-UDMA raid with 3 disks under raid 5. After a power

Does anyone know how to bring a down drive up in Adaptec raid

I tried CI/O and arconfig tools. There is no this...

Firmware update sufficient to increase hard disk capacity? by
Dr. Uwe Meyer-Gruhl
Hi,
now, as new harddisks with more capacity per platter come out, I have
noticed that there are some "strange" models in most manufacturer's lines:
For example, Hitachi has an "80" GByte model in their GXP 180 line,
which maybe should be more properly called "90" GByte...

I know also that WD has a 12 month warranty on their "regular" units,
and a 3-year warranty on their units that have an 8MB cache. Their RMA
policy is pretty good, in that you have a choice of receiving a
replacement BEFORE sending the defective unit back. This allows you to
