OT Connect a tablet to a modern monitor? by
John Doe
Anybody familiar with the endeavor?
Researching it for the inexpensive Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7".
Apparently there are various ways to do so, like with HDMI (might
require a power adapter) and some sort of mirroring through Wi-Fi.
Any other device experiences?
Thanks.

HAF 922 case will not take Gigglebite bored. by
[email protected]
I had a PC in Coolermaster HAF 922 case. The mainboard died, so I tried
to put a spare board into it. That is GA-H55M-S2V. According to the
sticker on the box, it is micro ATX form factor.
The manual for the HAF 922 says it takes ATX or micro ATX but it does
not have a standoff position for one of...

Samsung SSD software by

My Samsung 840 EVO SSD came with a software disk. Having little
experience with SSDs I would like to know whether people recommend
installing the Samsung software.

Seagate "hybrid" SSD + HD interesting by
RayLopez99
Just like various people suggest using C: drive as SSD and putting your data on an HD "D:" drive, Seagate for a couple of years has had a hybrid drive, but with only about 9 (! not 90 but nine) GB SSD that is 'read only' and a traditional mechanical HD for the 1T or so storage.
I read some reviews...

3T HD by
Flasherly[_2_]
They're essentially at the same price range, as 2T drives,
for not considering the better dollar cost average at 3T.
I've older MBs, early dual cores - no newer fancy mickey-mouse BIOS
stuff;- no 3T support.
That, however, does not appear to relegate me to having to purchase a
3T PCB supported...

PC power suplies by
Desmond[_3_]
Hi I have a tower unit with a 500W PSU that I think is failing. After a wile the PC crashes and I get a blue screen. This happens after it has been on for a while. On one occasion it went dead completely but it started up when I got to it.
I don't think it can be anything else. Not sure if an over...

Smartphone to PC file transfer? by
John Doe
Have they figured out that copying data is a fundamental part of
computing? My iPhone 3G does not easily copy files to/from a PC.
My next smartphone definitely will. That's just critical here.

cpu cooler differences by
Flasherly[_2_]
Have a 478 P4 single-core 3Ghz in a consequently smaller CPU cooler
factor, than a larger 775 CPU cooler in a dual core 2.66 config. Ran
the socket 478 at 140 deg. F yesterday over some encodes. Setup the
dual core tonight, beside it, migrating and tweaking stuff in to move
over eventually to the...

OT Semi-moderated groups by
John Doe
Google's new YouTube video comment section format allows the original
poster of one reply to moderate replies to that one post. I like it.
Too bad they don't include threading like UseNet.
A UseNet that allows the original poster to moderate its own threads
would be great IMO. That is also...

The un-hell of it all by
Flasherly[_2_]
Just took the case sides off both computers - "working sides" opposite
the side next to the MB mounting sub-plate.
Not an office environ, obviously, just summer-time rolling along
again.
One case stands straight up, so pretty much need to remember to look
before grabbing it for a quick flip for...

Large heat sink doesn't make contact with processor by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm building a computer from slightly-outdated parts (they're the parts I had laying around). I'm using a motherboard with an LGA775 socket processor. I got a heat sink with a fan and the thing is HUGE. It sticks out from the motherboard almost the entire width of the case, and gravity is...

continuous BIOS beep by
[email protected]
I got a PC that emitted one continuous beep - until you switched if off.
This is not listed in the BIOS beep codes. Could have been 1 dud transistor
that switched on the beep oscillator, but then maybe the PC would still boot.
Nothing else happened: no lights lit up on keyboard or CD drive.
I...

New build questions by
Mark[_23_]
I am looking to build (or buy) a new desktop. It will be a general
purpose machine. The most demanding tasks will be some games and a
bit of video editing. I also need to run one or more VMs so will need
plenty of memory. I don't need the fastest spec as I am quite happy
to run games on medium...
