Win 7 Clean Install advice wanted by
No Name
I am planning to do a clean install to a new SSD.
I have a lot of software on the machine. With
items such as Photoshop, Norton, Lightroom and MS
Office (retail version, not OEM) should I uninstall
the software from the current OS before the clean install?
Or will these vendors recognize that...

Toshiba 14" - Nice Price by
Boris[_5_]
Hi,
I've had a couple of Toshibas in the past, and have been happy with them.
I got this one for my wife four months ago, and we are both very happy with
it.
Normally priced at $800, we found on OfficeDepot for $600 in October, but I
had BestBuy price match it because BestBuy will let you try...

6Mb Cache by
Ron Hardin
I notice that core-2 duo's with 6Mb L2 cache have
completely disappeared from the small business
outlet (and probably everywhere else).
3Mb seems to be the max.
Smaller cache runs a lot slower for a large
scatter-gather RAM use apps.

Nvidia 3D on an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 by
Steve
Hi,
My wife has an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 laptop, approx 3 months old. The
laptop is capable of showing 3D movies, but you obviously need some 3D
glasses to watch them. I've found Nvidia 3D glasses on sale and 3D kits,
which contain glasses and an IR emitter. However I have a feeling this
laptop...

laptop purchase by
RnR[_2_]
I haven't kept up with the Dell laptops lately. My daughter wants to
replace her Dell laptop with a new one but wants a decent video card
in it. I don't know her budget but I'm guessing $700 or less.
Personally I'd prefer her to have windows 7 on this new laptop but she
may not care. Any...

XP Home SP1? by
Ron Hardin
My Inspiron 2200 has taken up with 20 minute boot
times owing to unknown bloatware.
I'm thinking of restoring the XP Home sp1 CD, but
am not confident that there's an upgrade path to
SP3 from there. Is it still possible?

Old Vostro AC Adapters by
Ron Hardin
After a series of odd power hits, the UPS played
safe or got confused enough to shut off power on
its output a couple of times.
This in turn caused an old Vostro 1500 ac adapter
to shut down.
In this mode, when power returns, the adapter does
not power up. Naturally the laptop then runs the...

Missing on-line documentation by
Ben Myers[_4_]
More of a curiosity than anything else, I looked for on-line documentation for any of the Dell Latitude C610, Latitude D810, Inspiron 4100 and Inspiron 8100, kissing cousins that were the last of the Pentium III laptops. For me, they are useless. For someone else, maybe in another country, pretty...

Do any of Dell's Precision laptops have encryption accelerator chips

the XPS 8500 appears to be limited to four cores.

Best WWAN card for M6500? by
Justin[_14_]
forgetting about all the other bull**** issues I had... what would be a
good WWAN mini-PCI card for a Precision M6500? I figure I'll get an
unlocked card no matter what the brand. My intention is to use the
prepaid plans just for the data connection.

E5400 monitor by
Ron Hardin
I ordered a new display for my Latitude E5400, which apparently had a
flourescent light burnout in the display (though you can bounce light off
the screen and dimly see what it's doing).
The question now is whether to let it keep running as a CPU server since
it's been working fine, or shut it...

dell E196FP monitor dying? by

My dell E196FP monitor dying?
It sure looks like it. It's difficult to get the display to come up. I need to recycle the power several times before I can see the display. Otherwise, it's black, black, black. It's been getting worse.
Anything I can do, or has it reached the end of its life. I've...

Dell 1545 - boot from SDHC card? by
Richard Stephens
I have a two year old Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook computer (Dual Core
Pentium, 3gb RAM, 320gb hard drive, Intel graphics). Is it possible to
install an OS on an SDXC card and boot from it? I'm thinking about trying
the Chrome OS (not the Chrome browser). There's at least one port that can
be...

A Dell Bluetooth Travel Mouse (F298K) Works fine on another machine and
even a macbook, but will not stay connected to a $1,200 Precision M6500.
I tried replacing the batteries, updating the bios and adding the mouse
several times.
After updating the bios from A02, to A07 then A12 (can't go from...

Video card problem by
SW
Hi Everyone
I need some help with a AMD HD 7570 graphics card problem. It isn't found by
Windows as an AMD card, it's a Standard VGA adapter.
I took a AMD Radeon HD 7570 card out of a new Dell Vostro 420 where it was
working fine in Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit with an i5 processor, 4GB RAM, PSU as...

Intel ProSet Wireless on 5000 series cards wedging itself, fix by
Ron Hardin
A constant problem for us is Intel wireless geting
wedged in an impossible state, which has to be
fixed by disabling and reenabling the wireless
manually, to restore wireless connectivity.
(Dell wireless cards don't have this problem.)
It's most likely to be a lock bug in the Intel
driver, or...
