Power supply? Maybe? by Randella
Hello all... We have had a few power surges in the local area due to lighting. My neighbor's computer now fails to start. It would boot for about 3 seconds and then loop out and stop. I have replaced the motherboard and now the only thing that happens when I try and turn it on is that the...

RAID 1 remote diagnostic by Fred H
I just built a file server (P4 MB w/RAID support, 1 x IDE boot drive, 2 x SATA data drives in a RAID 1 configuration). Haven't put an OS on yet but the concept is that I'll have a wireless PCI card in the thing and access it from my other computers. But how will I know if a drive goes down? There's...

60 Sec Boot Time Normal?? by Pedro Sanchez
I have amd venice 3200+ 64 bit cpu. I timed it and it takes 60 seconds, from beep at bios to all things loaded from msconfig/registry etc. Older/previous computers I owned took 20-30 seconds. So, is 60 seconds a reasonable amount of time?

Nobile Hard DriveM by [email protected]
I had a 2-month old Seagate 60Gig 2.5" drive fail with multiple bad sectors. Seagate says they will replace it with a refurbished drive, and the owner doesn't want a refurb. If I have to buy a new drive, what brand do you recommend? Thanks Phil

Is this video driver correct? by TVeblen
I have an Asus branded Radeon 9800 Pro w/256 video card installed in one of my boxes, loaded with the drivers and software that came in the retail box. The OS is Windows XP Home Ed - SP2. Windows Update informed me of a driver update for my card. I installed it. Everything works fine. But, the...

Rebuilding a Quieter More Powerful Desktop For Under $1000 (Looking For Advice On The Quieter Aspect) by [email protected]
This summer I plan on rebuilding my computer for the 4th time in its lifetime. It all started way back with a Celeron 333mhz and a Voodoo3 2000 PCI. Since then I've made my way up to an Athlon 2800+, 1GB DDR, Radeon X800 XL and an Audigy 2 Value. It seems like a pretty capable machine right? So why...

I have a Motorola V360v. Using Windows XP SP2. I also tested the device with a Toshiba Bluetooth dongle and a Gigabyte Bluetooth Dongle. With both they pair easily. But when it wants to install the Bluetooth Modem, it keeps on searching and searching unable to find anything. Each time I activated...

Intel PD 950 3.4 GHZ DC - Voltage Estimate / Envelope Sought by Agent_C
I’m planning on over-clocking an Intel PD 950 3.4GHz Dual Core processor, on an Abit AW8 motherboard. I’d be curious to know what the experienced over-clocker thinks might be the envelope for this particular combo; but more specifically, how much additional voltage I’ll need to get it to around 4...

Video not showing up during power on self test / boot by Wiseman
Hi All, I've just upgraded my video card from a Geforce MX 440 64MB to a Geforce 6200 256 MB. Things seem to be OK but I've noticed that before upgrading the MX 440 would be mentioned during the boot but the 6200 isn't. Is this normal or is there something to check ? I should also mention that...

Help me clean up a miss applied cpu cooler by Brian K
I have an AMD 64 3300+ that I'm putting into a Mach Speed K8M9MSR2 this is a 754 socket. The heatsink fan is Masscool 5T313B1HG3G. During the build process, I thought I had secured the Masscool cpu cooler after applying the silicone thermal grease that shipped with it. As I moved on to other...

Cannot boot from USB 2 HDD formatted with NTFS by meagain
After much GOOGLE-ing and trying different things, it seems that I must use some version of FAT instead of NTFS to make my USB 2.0 HDD bootable. Is this true? It's a 40GB Maxtor with XP-Home SP2 using NTFS. And Asus A7N8X-X which supports booting from USB in BIOS but it just won't work. I bought...
