what do the latest BIOS chips look like? by
OhioGuy
I was just looking at the BIOS chips on a few motherboards I have laying
around here. The one on my ~2000AD board is the same type I had on my first
IBM clone from 1990 - a big one you can remove easily by hand.
On my ~ 3 year old mboard, it has a little socketed thing called a PLCC
with 32...

Intel DG965RY motherboard fan noise by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have an Intel DG965RY motherboard that insists on running it's 'AUX FAN' at
4200 RPM which sounds like a jet aircraft taking off. It runs the outlet fan
at a respectable 3200 RPM, which is nice and quiet. Either I'm too damn
stupid to figure out how to control the fan speed on this mobo...

Temp alarm? by
Davej
So what is used for overtemp alarms? Or do people bother? Or is this
now hidden in the OS somewhere? I have the P5B-E, an ATI card, and run
XP-Pro. Asus has tools but I don't know how to make them wake up on
the tray. ATI has the CCC but I don't see a temp alarm in it. Thanks.

slow read time on cdrw by
[email protected]
I recently hooked up an external Memorex cdrw (52x32x52) to my laptop
-- which already has a cdrw/dvd player in it. The idea was to rip cd's
into iTunes faster via the external (not to do 2 at once). But it
draaaaags when ripping, something like 2x. I've seen lots of writing
about SCSI and IDE...

Heatsink and Motherboard confusion by
Omicron
I am trying to connect a Zalman Heatsink/Fan model CNPS9500 to my ASUS
Motherobard model P5NSLI.
My confusion is the following:
The heatsink has a 3-pin female connector on the end which is suppose
to be connected to the CPU Fan power connector on the motherboard.
However, this motherboard...

Hey folks. Getting ready to build a new system and this is my first

ram speeds. What speed RAM do I want if I am using a Core 2 Duo E6400
at 1066mhz? I know with the P4s I would have an 800mhz CPU so I would
get PC3200 at...

What DVD burner drive is best for ripping? by
OhioGuy
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it looks like I'm going to RMA the LG H42 18X DVD burners I got from
Newegg about a week ago. It takes these drives on average 25 to 28 minutes
to rip a 6 to 7 GB DVD video. The drives just can't rip faster...

Hi, Bill. I found myself in a very similar situation recently, when
trying to add a couple of new drives to my roughly 3 year old system. Prior
to that, the system often would only come up properly the second time it was
turned on. After adding the drives, my onboard sound quit working, and a...
