Appliance-chipped timers II by Flasherly[_2_]
They're relatively new, from a mechanical-priced range for direct Chinese digital imports, to domestic and variously rebadged, up to $20-ish on premium digital unit mark-ups, although altogether and widely averaged out, the digital is no less an accessible commodity. Newer digitals, however, are...

Clocks with chips. Whatever will be next. by Flasherly[_2_]
Are a dollar for the movement behind a piece of paper sold for $20. Looking at market bearings, a programmable event alarm linked to an exterior power source, which turns on or that source along with an apparent light of LED confidence. Appliance timers are selling for $20. Not mechanical trips...

Last Electrical AssKick by Flasherly[_2_]
Feels like ten hours under waterheaters. 7 foot to base of shelf measured from floor. 30 inch top is at the ceiling. Low and Fat Boy mounted over a sink at 40gal. Had leg cramps from up and down a ladder and shoulders were sore from all the fitting tightening and moving tanks around on a...

Crucial bit-rotted not by Flasherly[_2_]
Crucial_CT256MX100SSD1, released for first MLC 16nm SSD. Bought it possibly five years ago, and implemented for data storage considerations three or more years ago. The smallest consideration is then a 30G directory in storage stasis for the hypothesized time: Info - date: 12/4/2019 - process:...

PS/2 vs USB Keyboard and why Logitech K120 belongs in trash ! by [email protected]
Hello, In this video I prove why PS/2 keyboards are better for typing and gaming. https://youtu.be/fQxe7MXUYOo In short: PS/2 drivers are optimized and use less CPU cycles and thus will remain responsive in HEAVY CPU GAMING USAGE. Logitech K120 USB Keyboard has BAD drivers and TINY annoying...

2-in-1 RAM adapter by SC Tom
Years and years ago, there used to be these adapters that you could plug 2 sticks of RAM in to increase the amount memory in each slot (had some on an old 386 or 486 PC). Are they still being made that would work on DDR3 RAM, or are the newer memory speeds making that unstable? I have a number...

new Threadripper 3900 memory access modes? by [email protected]
I read a review at wccftech, which has this intriguing sentence: With memory access modes, users can select between UMA (maximum memory bandwidth) and NUMA (lowest latency) modes. So what is going on? I guess there are 2 memory controllers which are married to a CPU die, but can be linked to act...

Full circle as my first SSD was a samsung 128G Samsung (Discounting the first Samsung 64G, since that's too old and small to be comprehensible.) Then Crucial. This was all MLC and old MLC, way before much else was around Then an HP "planar MLC" which is newer but an older model from a sale last...

12-core AMD 3900X - does it need better cooling? by John Savard
The recent announcement of the 3950X from AMD startled me. Unlike the other new Ryzens, it doesn't include a Wraith cooler in the box. Instead, it is recommended that at least a 280mm AIO cooler be used with it. Not being an overclocker, I had to do some web searching to get a feel for what was...

Naval cord passing conciousness to infant (Or passinginformation/software to new computer) by [email protected]
I wonder what it would take to put some software on some new computer with minimal complexity. What I came up with was some simple cord to pass digital information into the new computer with some bits. Perhaps a wait time or some other pattern to recgonize the start of the signal and then dump...

PC no bootee, but drives visible by [email protected]
It's an old Dell Inspiron. Has i3 sticker on, but somebody upgraded to i5. Will not boot from hard disk or CD. The drives show up in BIOS. The Dell has diagnostic in boot menu, which tests RAM and drives. Althought these are "DST" short tests, which don't appear to do a scan. Swapped the drives...
