Steve Giannoni

time and other small icons. Clicking reveals the "updates are ready to
install" message. "Running" the icon results in an apparently normal
updating, but the yellow icon simply returns after. System is a P-IV
running Windows XP...

temp monitoring diodes by
Lez Pawl
First Q, would it be normal for the system temp to be higher than the cpu
temp.
Second Q, I have a Foxconn MoBo supplied with monitoring software SuperStep.
This shows CPU at 30C and System Temp at 41C.
I also use, as it can be set to display on the Taskbar, MBM5 and was under
the impression...

Time to uograde my old mouse? Optical? Cordless? by
Jon D
I am using an old style mouse with cable and rollerball.
I would like to upgrade it because it the rollerball gets clogged up
with dirt. And the mousewheel too picks up dust which then gets into
the internal workings and makes the scrolling action jerky.
However, in the past I have heard various...

Modem connection speed by
Neil Barnwell
On our standard 56k dialup modem (in the UK, this is), we only get ~38k when
we connect. Are there any ways to correct this? I've considered calling
the phone company and asking them to turn up the gain, but I've also been
told that this wouldn't make any difference.
Drivers etc are all up to...

Does more memory require a more powerful fan? by
micky
The t hread about free installation of 10 has piqued my interest.
Which is better, a small form factor PC running a 64bit version of 10
using 8Gigs RAM, or a full size case running a 32bit version with 4gigs?
Alternatively, I ordered 8gigs for my computer that had the bad memory**
Does that...

Hello, I recently built a brand new computer using Gigabyte's GA-K8NF-9

it says "Boot From CD". So I put in my XP cd and/or my driver cd that came
with the motherboard and it doesn't work. I then try booting with...

Well, That Was A First by

I thought my primary system was perma-****ed. I had to do a hard
power off the other day because this one ATI proggie crashed and then
locked up to the point where Windows couldn't even shut it down. So
then when I turned it back on, when it got to the point where it
SHOULD have started booting...

If I get a modern super-compact digital camera such as a mid-range Canon
IXUS (US: Canon Powershot) for general use then ...
.... what minimum speed of SD memory should I get to avoid delays?
I see "x133" mentioned a lot on memory adverts. Is x133 fast, slow,
just right for the sort of camera...

Just ordered this setup from Newegg by

I'm hoping I made the right buying decisions here regarding a new system I
plan on putting together, and any feedback or thoughts would be appreciated
here. I basically had a $2000 budget, and wanted to get something geared
more toward gaming than not, so here's what I got:
