Help, P4P800+WD1200JB stuck in PIO mode in WinXP? by
William Cheng
Hi all,
I have a bunch of drives hooked up to my new MB (Asus P4P800) and just
recently checked in WinXP that my primary drive Western Digital WD1200JB was
running in PIO mode. I swore when I put together the system at first that
it was running properly at UDMA5. I can't seem to get it into this...

Help, what's the pin outs for the front connector to SB Live! by
William Cheng @HSE
Hi all,
I was hoping if any of you know or can direct me to a diagram that outlines
what the pin outs are to the on-board card front connector pins. I think
these pins are for the older Live Drive that was available - I was hoping to
use some of them for a front panel mic, headphones or line-in...

Intel 865Perl - More than 2 SATA drives by
William G. Anderson
I have an Intel 865Perl motherboard, with 2 160 GB SATA drives and
WinXP. Everything is working fine, however, files expand to match
available hard drive space :).
I would like to add some more SATA drives. Since the motherboard has
only two connectors, I would need an add-on card. Anyone have...

Cheap software for a burner by

What's a good burner software title these days for cd's and dvd's. I just
built a new machine with an OEM burner that didn't come with any software.
It pains me to buy Roxio or Nero. No more than I use the burner portion of
the drive, I hate to put an $80 dent in...

Wayne:
I have the same motherboard, and the same problem. Different case

power supply, video, and cpu fans. I also see the "Zone 2"
temperature get up to about 51 degrees during DVD processing.
To see where the temperature...

William J. Lunsford
A friend has an HP desktop system that had a pair of cheap speakers that
stopped working. I checked all of the settings and could find nothing wrong.
She had a headphone set so I plugged that into the same receptacle and the
headphones worked fine. I suggested she buy another cheap set of...

PSU going bad? by
William J. Lunsford
My budget home-built PC has worked fine for several years without problems.
Recently, it has acted absolutely dead twice when I have tried to start up -
no fan noise, no beep, nothing. However, after I pulled the plug and
plugged it back in, it started normally both times. There have been no...

Black screen on HP dv2000 notebook by
William J. Lunsford
A niece brought home an HPdv2000 notebook with an absolutely blank black
screen. There is no beep or fan noise on startup -- nothing but the normal
lights at the top of the keyboard. I tested the AC adapter following the
instructions on the HP Website. The AC adapter is OK. I reseated the RAM...

I am just starting to gather information. It's been six years since I built
my last computer, and I have not really kept up with the latest
developments. I'm planning to build a new system for Windows 7, and would
like some recommendations regarding components. My new system will be used...

AMD CPU Diagnostic?? by
William W. Plummer
Can any one tell me where to get a diagnostic program to test all the
features of my XP 1800+ CPU? I believe AMD sells a program but it costs
more than the CPU (And I'm short of $$$ these days). The problem seems
timing related and causes very infrequent "Kernel exception not...

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe vs A7N8X-E Deluxe? by
William W. Plummer
What's the difference between the two MBs? I have an broken A7N8X Deluxe
and a -E that works fine. The former has a "feeper" sound device and an
AGP warning LED and certain things such as the CD Audio header are in
different places. The CMOS setup on the -E seems nicer -- it has the...

I have a dead A7N8X Deluxe and was looking at it. I can't see a game port
connector on the back riser. Is that right? How would one connect in a
