M processor vs P4 by
\@@bogus\
Can someone tell me if the M processor is as good as the P4 in terms of
performance? I am considering them on a notebook. A Dell salesman told me
that the 1.5 M is equivalent to a P4 3.0 Is that true or is it total
bull****?
Thanks.

Pre Production D865GBF: BIOS locked? by
zzz!
I have such a MoBo, it works great with a P4 2.8.
There is only a problem, I cannot have the BIOS flashed, either by the
Express Utility (I have a System Error message )or by the
old-fashioned DOS procedure (it starts fine, gives final confirmation,
but does nothing).
Tried both the P10 and the...

Q: new Celeron D temps by
zzipper
I've just installed a Celeron D 325 (2.53@533FSB) and am averaging 44C idle,
48-51 under moderate to heavy loads. I haven't had time for extensive
testing but is this close to what would be normal with the stock cooler?
It's in a well ventilated case and I intend to install a better cooler
before...

Celeron 1.3GHz, and other Q'a by
zxcvbob
Are all socket 370 Celeron 1.2G and 1.3G processors based on the Tualatin
core? I'm looking for a not-too-expensive CPU and motherboard (micro-ATX
or flex-ATX format) too build a very quiet, low wattage PC. Some of the
ads I see say "coppermine" core.
I think the Celeron M processors and boards...

Celeron M motherboards? by
zxcvbob
Is anyone making motherboards with the i855 or i852 chipset for the new
"Celeron M" processors? I'd like to build a low-power desktop PC in a
small case, with a maybe one AGP slot and 1 PCI, and lots of onboard I/O.
The only thing I've found is micro-ITX mobo for almost $500 w/o the
processor. I...

maximum HDD size in Win98? by
zxcvbob
I just built a PC last night, and I powered it up this morning for the
first time. The bios recognizes the HDD as 80GB, but when I run FDISK
to create the primary partition, it thinks there's only 10GB available.
I've used Win98 to format 20GB drives before, but never one this large.
Is the HDD...

power supply for a 3 ghz p4 by
[email protected]
I thinking of upgrading to a p4 3ghz 1MB cache processor. I have a 300
watt power supply. Do I need to upgrade the power supply or will 300
watt suffice. The computer will have the basics attached including
video card, sound card, 60gb hard drive, 512mb ram, so I don't think it
will be over...

EFI by
Ziza
When will BIOS die? Its time to get rid of it. I dont understand why EFI
is not jet a standard. From what I red EFI is going to be better so what
is the problem? Why manufacturers keep forcing BIOS? Bios is a dinosaur.

Imagine this by
Ziza
Imagine this:
You have Dual Core, 2 graph. card - SLI mode, minimum of 2 HDD and at least
4GB RAM.
Now, what We will be able to do?!
We will be able to run 2 OS at the same time.(LNX-LNX, WIN-LNX, WIN-WIN)
1 core, 1 graph., 1 hdd, 2GB of RAM will run one OS and the other half
the other.
We will...

1GHZ Pentium IIs? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I've been looking up the Pentium II on Intel's website due to some
problems we've had with our computer - the processor was a long shot,
I know - and I was surprised to find that Intel didn't seem to have
made any P2s of more than 450 MHZ speed. This puzzles me as ours is
1GHZ (and it...

How Good is the Built in video? by

A friend has a e-1400 (the desktop version - not the small factor/tower
version) Gateway running Windows 2000 with what I think is the Lanai (intel
SU810) motherboard and what WCPUID states is a Pentium 3 (833 MHz?) chip.
She would like to put in a DVD drive/burner
But, at the following Gateway...
