FSB Speed (memory) by MIke Brown
Can anyone confirm that you can mismatch memory FSB speeds with CPU FSB speeds? I accidentally ordered 800Mhz DDR2 after ordering a 533Mhz FSB P4 processor. Will the faster memory still work? As I understand it, the FSB will simply run at 533Mhz instead of the higher rating the memory was designed...

PCI-E & PCI compatibility by No Spam
Hi all, does anyone know if PCI-E & PCI are compatible? That is, can I use a standard WiFi card that should go into a PCI slot in a PCI-E 1x slot. I assume it would never work the other way around.

How many Opterons are binned out of an Athlon tray? by [email protected]
How many Opterons are binned out of an Athlon tray? How many chips make the Opteron cut? Because Opteron 165, 170, 175 and 180 are just the best chips tested from a batch of (potential) Athlon X2s, out of one tray (or wafer), what is the breakdown of how many chips become binned/selected as...

What's your Screeen Resolution? by Johanna
What screen resolution is everybody using? Drilled as I am in accessibility and speccing for 'average users', I guess I thought that anything over 12xx *7xx Hz was really unusual. Judging from an earlier thread it looks like I got that wrong. I am well aware that this group is not...

Grandma needs a PC by [email protected]
My 94 year old Grandmother has been very happy with her WebTV for years now. But a recent lightning strike took out the Philips set top box. On the upside she has become more receptive to computers after being indoctrinated on WebTV/msnTV. So I will soon be heading "over the river and through the...

Which video will support 1440*900? by hkfooey
I have purchased a new wide screen LCD monitor and found that my old Fujitsu laptop does not support 1440*900 resolutions (in native mode). Now everything looks off and ugly. :-( I am going to build my own desktop PC with Windows OS (for game + work) - so any good recommendation out there - AGP,...

Asus P5B Deluxe. 4GB RAM = 3GB by Doug Warner
Win XP Pro, with or without PAE switch, it sees only 2.93 GB RAM. BIOS shows 3008 MB, unless I enable the Memory Remap Feature in the North Bridge config. Then the BIOS reports the full 4GB being present, but Windows then only sees 2(!)GB. Now, I know it''s common for systems to see only...

The horrid sounds from my tower was the NVIDIA card... by Chopstick Head
Yes, after I cleaned everything with a can of compressed air, the sounds persisted. I removed the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 AGP card and the horrible sounds ceased. I removed the graphics card after trying to play Half-Life 2 after the cleaning, and the game froze up and sounds looped, and then the...
