LACIE problems by
nioski
I bought 2 Lacie external HD (those nice "Porsche design").
One is working allright since 2006, the transformator of the second
broke after a few uses and I can't find a replacement here in
Italy....
On their site Lacie does NOT give a telephone number to call, just a
mail.

alo
Hello...
I have a USB memory stick and everytime I insert it into a PC (running
WinXP pro) symantec finds 3 x 'loader.exe' on it.
I have formmatted the stick a number of times but each time Auto

How big is a gigabyte in hard drive advertising and packaging?
From another newsgroup, I suppose it's true:

Quality eSATA PCI card and cables? by
TomViolin
I am currently running three Sonnet 500P eSATA enclosures on a Dell
server using a 4-port Addonics eSATA PCI-X card.
Everything works very well and has been very reliable. However,
recently I had to do some maintenance on some adjacent hardware, and
merely brushed against the eSATA cables. Two...

Strange Problems with new WD3200AAJB Drive by
mcp6453[_2_]
I tried replacing the 160GB hard drive in my ReplayTV DVR with a brand
new WD3200AAJB drive. Unfortunately, the AA drives are not compatible
with the Replay 5000 series. (I have never had a problem replacing
ReplayTV drives. The newer drives are largely incompatible, so the
problems are now...

can shed any light on what my chances are of getting any data

Is this a standard ribbon cable? by
harveywallbanger
Bought one of these cheap ide 2 usb adapters.
It works, but the cheap ribbon cable they sent me broke in two days (only 2
inches long). It appears to be a standard ribbon hard drive cable. Female
connector at one end connects to any hard drive and male connector at other
end connects to usb2ide...

Reading floppy disks by
species8350
I have a floppy disk that reads without problem in most machines
(running windows). The other day, I was using a windows machine and
the floppy just kept spinning. On putting the floppy in another
computer it read without a problem.
Can anyone explain this.
Thanks.

Windows USB mass-storage oddity by
Yousuf Khan
Okay, I got a digital camera which attaches to my pc via USB. Until
recently, whenever I connected it to the PC, it would autoplay a
selection of utilities to transfer my images from the camera to my
computer. As of a couple of weeks back, it stopped doing any autoplays.
I looked into it a bit...

RAID 5 write performance by
Tom Del Rosso[_3_]
Since it's striped I would expect RAID 5 to be faster than RAID 1 generally,
but I've read some vague references (in this link and elsewhere) to lower
write performance in 5 than in 1. Why would that be so?

WD Passport - WD Sync by
[email protected]
I have a WD Passport drive that has lost many files.
The major problem I have is that the system uses something called WD
Sync that encrypts the files with 128 bit encryption - I think AES. I
have the password, and so would like guidance on how to decrypt the
files.
Any pointers or ideas would...

How to determine supported MID types by

Pioneer have a page that lists Supported DVD-Writable Media for
various model series:

I don't know if other manufacturers have similar data. However, I have
recently been able to extract MID codes embedded in the SB01 firmware

Question for seasoned SCSI expert by
Odiferous[_2_]
I'm involved in a complex case relating to a "failed" SCSI raid array.
I need to ask a question of someone who is knowledgeable (very much so)
in SCSI technology to confirm that my suspicions are correct.
This will probably not apply to anyone who has less than 10 years'
experience in SCSI.
I...

Very poor RAID write performance by
Pauldoo
Hi,
We have HP xw9400 workstations featuring LSI MegaRAID SAS 8344ELP
cards with 4 drives. Read performance is fine, but writing is
terrible. We only get 7 Mb/sec for sequential writes to RAID5, and
around 11 Mb/sec to RAID0.
We have tried using both Windows XP 64-bit and Windows 2003...

There are nine drives in this system, so it's difficult to tell...

can use if needed.
Also I think one or two tapes might be corrupt too, so if it could
