Install XP with AHCI enabled by
John Doe
I shall now attempt to install Windows XP with AHCI enabled.
Using nLite.
Nicely written tutorial here. Hopefully it's technically correct
and implemented correctly (by me).

AS SSD Benchmark results for real? by
John Doe
If you look on Amazon, you can see hard drive benchmark results
comparing two SSD drives of perhaps similar technology.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61AIiSbaUjL.png
My new Intel 520 Series SSD has performance results much closer to
the OCZ. Could there be something wrong with the AS...

I tried this.

But now I get the same prompt except with "Administrator" in the

Run Virtual OS emulator with Windows 7 from inside Windows 7? by
RayLopez99
I do have an emulator on my other machine that's a virtual OS, without looking I think it's VMWare freeware. (This machine, a laptop, will not run a virtual OS unless I do something to the BIOS as I recall--too lazy to do so)
Question: can I run Windows 7 as a virtual OS there? I just need to...

Thermal Cement? by
Agent_C
Customer returned a Linksys 8-port Gigabit switch which clearly had
something rattling around inside it. When I open up the unit, I
discovered a heat-sync had dislodged from the board.
Problem is, it clearly wasn't connected with anything more than some
sort of thermal cement. No clip screws or...

SSD tuning in Windows XP by
John Doe
Intel has an "Acronis AlignTool" for correction an NTFS formatting
problem in Windows XP. Something about the starting sector being 63
causing every read to access the disk twice. If I recall correctly,
my Macrium Reflect backup took 58 seconds before using that tool. It
took 30 seconds after....

Can't boot XP off new SATA drive by

My present working configuration has two physical ATA drives. The master
is a WD 500GB drive partitioned at C:, E:, F:, H:, and I:. The slave is
a Seagate 160GB partitioned as D: and G:. (There are also two SATA
optical drives.)
I added a WD 1TB Caviar Blue SATA drive, partitioned into five. I...

Anyone know how to contact them by phone? I didn't find a contact

Reviews of SSD drives by
John Doe
This looks like an interesting review, comparing Intel's 330
Series to their 520 Series. Note the theory on page one about why
the 330 is less expensive than the 520. And lots of pretty pictures.

Bit of a historical question: MS-DOS by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
I've been trying to remember this, and I honestly can't remember it
anymore. In MS-DOS, where were the standard external commands located?
The only thing I remember about MS-DOS was that the command.com was
located in the root directory (along with autoexec.bat, config.sys, and
the hidden files...

Best deal on an SSD drive by
John Doe
I found a good one that Newegg has for less than Amazon. Not sure
if it's the fastest, but it's probably the most reliable end-user
type. And after my first/last experience with an SSD drive, I
wanted reliable. Don't really need 120 GB, but the price was right
for this Intel 520 Series SSD...
