SATA and IDE by
StumpY
Hi,
I've just got a QDi P4I865 mobo and a SATA 120Gb HDD.
Do I have to loose a whole IDE channel (master & slave) to use the SATA
drive?
I would like to have the SATA drive as primary boot (WinXP) with an IDE as
slave, then DVD and CDRW drives on the secondary IDE......is this possible?
Cheers!

Modem usage by
Maurice
I am currently running Windows XP, and i read somewhere ( before i had to
format the drive ) that Windows XP only uses 80% of the modems/internet
ability.
1. Is that true
2. If so, how can i change it that it would use 100%
3. Is there a way to boost the connection ( meaning not by any program...

ADSL speeds by
Stephen Austin
Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong group.
What I would like to know is this - if I have an ADSL connection from home
of, say, 512kb, what does the contention ration of 50:1 mean?
Does it mean that I could end up sharing the 512kb/s bandwidth 50 ways? And
getting 10kb/s?
If this is the case,...

Case fan as CPU cooler? by
Dave Smith
I've seen a couple of articles for adapting an 80mm fan to a 60mm
heatsink, but it seems to me that the most effective way to do this
would be to turn a rear fan around and duct the air flow to the
heatsink. It seems to me that this setup would supply more air and
cooler air to the sink. It also...

External DVD Writer by
Buck Turgidson
I have a laptop. I want a DVD burner, but am not clear if the models sold
are internal are external. Some explicitly say "Internal", some don't
mention internal of external. Do they actually make external, and are they
of good quality?

RAM Latency Confusion by
Bob Day
I wrote a program to measure the "end to end" latency
for reading a random 32-bit word in RAM. Basically,
it works like this:
1. It creates a circular list of pointers in memory in
which each pointer points at random to another
pointer in the list. The list occupies 256MB of
memory.
2. Then, by...
