Power suppply with 12V and mobo without 12V connect - works? by
NuQ
I have a new Antec 300W PS w/ a 12V connector, but the mobo I'm using is
pretty old and doesn't have a 12V connection. Still should work though,
right?
It was working before during the initial OS setup, but now 2 diff. hard
drives on 2 diff. controllers won't power up. It won't POST either. ...

TFT and Speakers (magnet) by

Do the magnets in speakers affect TFT monitors like they do CRT monitors?
Thanks.
No, as far as I know they do not. There are no magnets inside TFTs like
there is in a CRT tube.

Hissing 3com hub by
Pete
I have a 3com OfficeConnect Dual Speed 8-port hub - a few years old now -
which has recently started producing a loud hissing noise, and occasionally
a high-pitched squealing noise to boot. However, it still seems to work okay
(touchwood). Is it about to pop a capacitor or something? We used to...

Any ideas ? PC seems dead. by
Some One
Okay, the problem is the PC turns on but the red light (by the
drum/tube type
icon on the case) stays on and doesn't do much else. The computer
hums but
doesn't post, no drives can be accessed, nothing comes up on the
screen (except
a "no input" message".
That red light means the hard...

IBM ThinkPad screen problems by
Hans Huber
A friend of mine gave me her laptop, a IBM ThinkPad i Series Model 1161 with
screen problems. The screen appears very greenish and sometimes pink/purple
flickering. At first I thought it is a typical videodriver problem and
installed all the latest drivers. I soon found out though that the...

I have an external enclosure which houses a new Hitachi 80 GB Harddrive.
When I use the USB output to the computer, it sees the Harddrive.
Yet, when I use the Firewire on the external drive and the computer, it does
not see it.
I do not know whether I should use the Control panel to add hardware...

I was given an old Nighthawk Electronics Ltd. PCK4V KVM recently, and would
very much like to use it. *BUT* there was no manual, there is no manual on
the net, and the company seems to have gone bust last year so there's no
chance of getting information from them. I opened the box up,...

cutting psu wires by

Fold them up neatly and leave them alone. There is nothing good
that will result from random snipping of power supply cables.
You're in grave danger of shorting something out, to say nothing
of the fact you would eliminate any possibility of ever adding
anything to the computer.

system is on but this happens...
