Could someone reccomend a good laptop for a database developer? by
Data Girl
I am currently in the market for a work / personal use laptop in the base
$800 - $1,300 range. I've been out of the loop for the past few years due to
raising kids and am not currently up to speed on the latest hardware / 64bit
platform stuff.
Here are the major applications I'm intending to...

Difference Between Intel Server and Desktop CPUs by
[email protected]
Can someone point me to an article or explain the difference between
server and desktop cpu solutions.
For example,
How do 2x Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5100 (server model) compare
to 1x Intel Coreâ„¢2 Quad processor (desktop model) in terms of
performance?
Thanks,

please recommend where to buy 2 gig modules ddr2 by
Scotter
I'm about to build a new core duo quad core system.
The motherboard I've picked, like many, has only 4 slots for RAM.
I want to put 2 gig sticks in each slot so I can have a total of 8 gig.
The ONLY 2 gig sticks I can find of at least DDR-800 speed are at NewEgg by
two brands I never heard of.
The...

Raid 0 by
The New Guy
The Intel Matrix Raid 0 available on many newer Intel motherboards
like the 965 series is getting great reviews. I wonder how it
compares to hardware based PCI Raid controllers?

Complete confusion: Current Intel CPU lineup is a psychotic nightmare by
Intel Guy
Intel's current CPU lineup is a psychotic nightmare.
Even if you just limit yourself to socket 775, there's no ryhme or
reason to their current product line.
It's a pain in the ass when your trying to get a handle on what cpu's
are available for which motherboard, from which vendor, and make...

My question is really this: I own a Celeron M laptop, and I want to
know if some software is compatible with it or not. So: A Celeron M
is equivalent to (compatible with requirements for) a Pentium What?
And more generally, what processors should I look for in software

PCI Express 2.0 - when will we see motherboards with slots? by
boe
Hello,
I heard that PCI Express 2.0 was completed recently but have no idea how
long it takes to make it to market. Seems like when a new version of PCI
came out they came quickly but not sure how PCI Express will go. Any
news - I'd like to build a new computer soon.
Thanks

CPU cooler by
MagicJS
I'm buying a new cooler for Pentium dual core 3.0 Ghz CPU with 775 socket.
The existing cooler has screwed mountings. I found a good one by cooler master, but with push-pin mountings.
Does anyone know if the two are interchangeable or have any suggestions on another cooler. Thank you.

Computer Won't Start, What Do I Check First? by
Clark Kent
I have a Sony Vaio with an oddball Intel motherboard
(D915GRO/D915PRO/D915GVRO) that crapped out on me. When I turn the
computer on the fan runs at high speed, but there is nothing else. No
beeps and no video output whatsoever.
The computer was working fine and it is in its stock configuration...
