W[_3_]
Has anyone found a rackmount SATA drive enclosure which:
1) Hotswaps SATA drives without requiring a proprietary hard drive tray?
We want to be able to plug in off the shelf SATA drives and use those for
backups, and then take those out to store away. It would be a hassle to
constantly install...

Using a TIVO drive in my windows PC??? by
mike
Old TIVO's are dirt cheap and have 40-120GB IDE drives.
I put them in my PC and boot the live GPARTED CD
to create and format two NTFS partitions.
I've used this procedure successfully on many commercial
(non-TIVO) drives.
On some TIVO drives, windows XP won't install, but linux
partitions,...

Multi-Port Non-RAID ESATA PCI Card with BOOT BIOS by
W[_3_]
There are quite a few ESATA adapters for Windows available on the market.
What I am looking for is a non-RAID card (or a RAID card with a JBOD option)
that has a BOOT BIOS. It must be PCI or PCI-X and not PCI-Express / PCI-E.
What I mean by BOOT BIOS is that I want to be able to reboot the...

Adapt IDE hdd to SATA plug by
gemelli47
Hello guys
I have a satellite receiver with built-in plug to connect a SATA hdd:
The plug is female and of course transmits both data/power supply.
Now, I wonder if there is some adapter to connect an IDE hdd instead.
I would avoid spending money for a SATA, as I have a number of IDE
hdds.

DrArm
My new system gives me a choice of how I configure the SATA drives: As
EIDE or as ACHI. So, which should I use?
My SATA "drives" are a Intel 80GB SSD and a WD 1TB Cavier blue drive.
The only place I can find any discussion of the ACHI protocol is in the
motherboard settings. What's the difference...

Enterprise versus "consumer" grade drives by
miso
I haven't built a PC with hard drives in a few years and I have to say I
am amazed at the hard drive market. First of all, it
seems everyone bought everyone else. Samsung went to Seagate. Hitachi
went to WD. Fujitsu went to Toshiba, which is presume is waiting to go
elsewhere. Well now I can...

Do solid-state drives (SSDs) make any heat? by

Ahoy mateys!
Do SSDs make any heat like old fashion hard disk drives (HDDs)? I
noticed my Corsair Force Series F115 Solid-State Disk (SSD)
