How good is Windows 7 mirror raid? by
Ian R[_3_]
Hi Guys
Do any of you have experience of using Windows 7 RAID 1.
I'm looking at using it for my data only (Docs, Photo's, Music) so not
intending to boot from it (have SSD for OS and Progs).
Is it reliable or problematic?
Thanks for your time and any info.

Did something on my old Debian/Linux stable box crash and mess upmy CMOS? by
Ant[_3_]
.... I woke up before 6:15 AM PST and noticed my old box wasn't
responding (e.g., SSH2's text terminal commands not recognizing)
correctly and its BitchX v1.2 client's clock said 2:xx PM PST when I was
using it briefly and remotely (PuTTY) late last night before I passed
out at about 10:32 PM...

weight of WD black drive by
[email protected]
I got a WD black drive and it seemed quite heavy.
Looking up specs, it is more than 100 grams over a green drive.
So why is this?
Is it just to make the punters think the drive is robust and rugged?
Or are they skimping on the weedy greenie stuff?

Disk drive not showing name in driver list by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Okay, have recently upgraded my motherboard to a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
board (AM3+). Now something strange is happening with the disk drives
drivers in Windows 7, not sure if it's worth worrying about or not. In
the BIOS of the motherboard, there is a setting called "OnChip SATA Port

Seagate "retail" drive warranty by
Percival P. Cassidy
A few months back I posted here that I had found both 2-yr- and
1-yr-warranty STBD2000101 drives on the shelf at Best Buy, while at that
time people were complaining that the drives they had received from
NewEgg were 1-yr-warranty models. I had assumed that the 2-yr-warranty
drives were old...

Speed test of Intel 335 series SSD by
[email protected]
Hi
I just bought a Intel 335 series SSD. I've used its migration tool to migrate windows 7 from my old 3.5 inch WD hard drive to SSD. After done, I reboot it and didn't find faster than before.
I check the speed of both ssd and WD HD and found that they are all 6Gb/s. Am I wrong somewhere?
Any...

A small GoFlex USB external HD annoyance by
Shadow[_2_]
I have a ST1000LM024 silver "Seagate" external USB 3.0 drive,
which I plug in once or twice a day for backups.
On every laptop I've ever plugged it into (linux, win XP, win
7), when I eject it, it powers off.
On my desktop, it "disconnects", but does not power off when I
eject it. Running Win...

Samsung 2TB drive not detected by
Mark Perkins
I have three Samsung 2TB F4EG (HD204UI) hard drives in my PC, which is a
home built system that I assembled in 2011 and has been working fine ever
since. A few days ago, one of the hard drives "disappeared" from Windows 7's
Windows Explorer and Disk Management.
I rebooted the system and found that...

diagnostic duration of WD green versus red disk by
[email protected]
I was testing the hard drives from a PC what blew up (well the power supply
did - a big blue flash followed by burnt smell).
First I tested a WD red 3 TB. The long diagnostic took about 6 hours.
Then I tested a WD green 1 TB, but same diagnostic took about 4 hours.
So the red test is going twice as...

Upgrading RAID 1 to larger drives... by
Ian R[_3_]
Hi
I have a 2TB RAID 1 (mirror) which is running out of room.
I’d like to upgrade the drives to 3TB.
I was wondering about the best way to do it...
If I replace one of the drives with a 3TB I understand that the mirror will
automatically rebuild to the new drive albeit at 2GB. Once that has
