Simple multi-HDD enclosure? by
Ecrm
Hi,
Perhaps I'm using the wrong keywords, but I've been coming up empty in
trying to locate something that you would think would be in widespread use:
a simple, multi-HDD, external closure. By simple, I mean that it is
basically just consists of an enclosure, chassis, and power supply to drive...

How to map out bad sectors by
CWatters
What's the best way/prog to map out a few bad sectors so that I can make one
more backup before replacing the drive?
Ghost is reporting "Read sector failure, result = 1, drive = 0, sectors
49262215 to 49262279" and then aborts the backup. Ran it twice with similar
results.
Thanks.

Part 2 of thread: Not internal SATA/PATA but external by
Warra
Am in the UK. On 21st June I posted here that I wanted to get a bargain
250 GB Samsung hard drive.
I asked if I should get SATA or PATA for my oldish system Via SV266A
mobo with Duron 1800 cpu and 768MB SD-RAM.
I have many medium sized PATA drives and do not need another one to
leave on...

Harddrive vannished by
EriX
The BIOS denies the existence of the hard drive and I am unable to
partition or re-format the HDD. The Auto Detection feature in BIOS
found nothing, nor did re-flashing the BIOS do any good. FDISK from
floppy boot won't help, and boot from Win98SE installation CD
doesn't work since there is "no...

Maxtor External USB 2.0 Drive 3000LE & Large Drives by
\A_Michigan_User\
I also have the USB2 Maxtor 3000LE external.
My Windows XP machine can handle 300 gig drives... but when I try to put 1
in the 3000LE case... it
only sees 137gig.
Did you have to do anything special to get yours to work?
Where did you see that chipset... and part #? I don't see anything that...

How many RAID arrays on a single controller? by
Marco De Vitis
Hi,
I feel it might be a stupid question, but... do all RAID controllers
only handle a single array?
Say, for example, that you need to build a 4-disk RAID 5 array and a
4-disk RAID 0 array, both on the same machine working simultaneously; do
you necessarily have to use TWO separate controllers...

Dell blows goats by
magnate
I bought a Dell Dimension 5150 - stupid, stupid decision.
The motherboard has an ICH7R controller. If you look up this piece of
hardware, it's pretty good.It offers RAID 0 and 1 (and 5 and 10 if you
have four drives), using Intel's wonderful "Matrix" technology.
But no, Dell has crippled it, so...

organizing this, or is there any software out there that helps out with
