Maximum Speeds for SATA Drives by
Will
When a SATA drive employs more than one cylinder, are they striping data
across the cylinders transparently, or are they just laying out data
contiguously on any given track / cylinder? I have someone telling me
that they have been measuring 150 MB / second throughputs on individual SATA...

HCL hiring NetApp Storage Professionals - Noida by
Curtis Preston
Given that it's Usenet, we're lucky we're not bombarded with "real" spam
that offers a number of much more personal services. ;)
Just curious. I remember usenet becoming pretty much unusable several
years ago due to spam. Now spam seems to be almost gone. What
happened?

EMC DMX-III question AS/400 and V5R3M5 by
[email protected]
Technical question:
We have a rather uncommon setup on a number of AS/400 systems
partitions in that they use external SAN disk, not internal spindles.
They work pretty well, and some machines even use a load source
emulator card (ie. NO internal disk at all). 'D' IPLs, DR tests,
system rebuilds...

disc failure within lvm group by
avi
I've just setup 4 scsi 10g disk on a LVM volume, and created one
partition which comes up to be 36g. My question is, what happens if
one of the hard drives fail? what does LVM do? does the entire group
die?
I am running ubuntu dapper on a intel pentium III 800mhz server.

vxfs volume on clariion: mount on 2 hosts? by
the wharf rat
Ok, customer has a Clariion without replication manager or
snapview. We need to back up a couple of terabytes. What I want
to do is mount the vxfs filesystems read-only on another Sun and backup
directly from that host via a couple of directly attached scsi LTO drives.
Can someone tell me why...

Cheap remote storage for VMware ESX by
Ole Thomsen
I'm looking for a small 2-disk mirrored remote storage with embedded OS for
my ESX test setup.
According to the VMware forums, NFS has to be v3 and TCP-based - not UDP.
I have found Adaptec Snap Server 210, with the advantage of optional iSCSI,
but it's not that cheap.
Qnap TS-209 Pro is a new...

EMC DS-16B2 fibre switch ogin issue by
emcpa07
Purchased a EMC DS-16B2 off Ebay. Everything works fine i.e., system
tests etc.. However before it performs its POST the switch loads
VxWorks then proceeds to Fabric OS v3.2.0a for which the "typical"
login: admin; passwd: password fails. Does anyone know a method of
reseting factory defaults?

What Network Appliance products where available back in 1994? by

What Network Appliance products where available back in 1994?
I mentioned the Gear6 solid state storage device and somebody said
they were using comparable equipment back in 1994, an unspecified
model of "Network Appliance", by which I take it they mean the
products made by NetApp.
I suspect they...

Do lto3 drives with (e)sata exist? by
Bart Wakker
Hello, (e)sata with 3GB/s should have enough bandwidth for lto-3
drives. I would prefer this over a scsi interface. Do any lto-3
drives with an (e)sata interface exist?
