.snapshot file by
[email protected]
I am using a NetApp file server. The volumes contain a file
'.snapshot', which are apparently huge. What I want to know is whether
deleting this file will help in saving space. I would also like to know
whether deleting these files have any adverse effect.
Thanks in advance,
Gopu Bhaskar.

Booting off a SAN by
Rodrick Brown
Anyone care to give a solid run down of the pros and cons to booting off a
SAN?, i've been very weary about it for the longest but maybe i'm not seeing
the big picture :)
Especially interested in the UNIX folks who do this AIX/Solaris.

DirectBackup of CIFS shares , networking problem by
[email protected]
Background info :
EMC Celerra IP : 10.36.96.217
Backup Server IP : 10.36.96.208
Backup between the two works fine, however has to go through a switch
and drains the main bandwidth available from the Celerra, so what I
have done is directly connected a port on the Celerra via cat6 to
another...

DS-101 hacking by
pmilligan
This device definitely looks as if it will hack. The firmware contains
a ramdisk image which is used to prep the hard drive. This has telnet
disabled and the root password is complex. However one could either
add an account in the ramdisk before intialisation, or mount the
drive on a Linux PC after...

USB 2.0 Performance for Storage Arrays by
Will
How well would the USB 2.0 protocol scale to multiple storage arrays? If
you had four RAID cabinets, each with 3 TB of IDE RAID, that uplinked by USB
2.0 to a host, would the simultaneous use of the different arrays have
performance problems using USB 2.0 as the protocol / data bus? I'm...

Format numbers by

In my database I keep width and height as float numbers. These measures
have sometimes decimal places and sometimes not.
I know that with number_format($mynumber,2,'.',' ') for example I can
determine the number of decimal places, etc, etc.
The problem is that I want to show the format with '.' or...

When will SAIT-2 be available? by
Steve Cousins
Anyone know when the SAIT-2 drives will be available? I've tried
contacting Sony but can't get a reply. SAIT-1 seems to have been around
for more than two years so I don't want to buy one and then have version
2 come out a month later.
I wanted to go with the DLT-S4 drive but unfortunately that...

when we bought our HP MSL6030 tape library about two years ago we also
ordered a set of HP branded LTO2 tapes with it. About half of these

Can anyone recommend a LTO2 tape brand that they have good experience
