Are CRT monitor registers standard? by No Name
I used WinDAS to adjust G2 on an overbright Sony F500R monitor, and want to learn about a few of the other registers (full data set is copied below). Google has been useless. In general are CRT monitor registers standard across manufacturers? From the names I'm thinking a few of mine may be way...

eSATA/USB by Net Surfer
I want to figure out how eSATA/USB is used. Does the technology allow me to plug in an eSATA drive without a power cord to the drive? By comparison, Is it faster than an external USB 3.0 portable drive? Which doesn't require extra power cable either.

OT WYSIWYG screen capture in a fullscreen game? by John Doe
When I change screen resolution in Supreme Commander 2, and then take a screenshot, the different screen captures always come out in a per-pixel resolution. Items on the screen look much larger when the resolution is smaller, and vice versa... But the screen capture turns out larger when the...

WiFi security issues? Newbie ? for W7 by RayLopez99
I'm switching to Windows 7 on my new laptop and I wonder if there are WiFi issues I should be aware of. I normally have this machine wired to a hub on a wired modem/router and so I don't use WiFi, but I'm thinking if I do, there should be some gotchas. Yes this is an anti- virus question, don't...

OT Buying electronics over the phone by Metspitzer
I buy everything from Newegg and Amazon, but I have Internet access. I have an aunt that doesn't even have a computer. I think she would love buying a WDTV, but it would have to be over the phone. We have talked about me ordering it for her, but it would be simpler if she could just do it...

Cheap gigabit switch with no WOL issues by [email protected]
Looking for a cheap (less than $35.00) switch from Asus, D-LINK, TP- LINK etc. that doesn't interfere with wake on LAN (S3 standby and shutdown). Four or five ports is sufficient. Any recommendations? Seems like these new cheap switches feature green ethernet technology that may prevent WOL from...

How can I find out the BIOS settings? by DJW
How can I find out the bios setting for a computer that someone basically home built? I can’t even install windows 98SE without getting blue error screens during installation. I think the problem might be that the CPU speed is set wrong. Is there any way in DOS to read the type of Pentium III that...

Do your own repairs on a laptop? by RayLopez99
Just bought a Lenovo laptop, and though it's new, I'm wondering if years from now I can do my own repairs on the laptop. Is there a lively aftermarket? Or do people just send them in to be repaired in shops? Or just trash them after the 7 to 12 years it takes before a well-built laptop will...
