After I installed my Sb Audigy 2 sound card when theres supposed to be sound all I get is jumbled noises. Is it broken or am I doing something wrong?

I have bought a audigy2 and when i start the computer up the sound is not coming from the rear speakers. I must go to the spaker test and play the noise than it is correct and i can hear the sound from the 4/5 speakers. How is this possible ?? Hans.
