bad motherboard causes intermittent ethernet problems? by
RayLopez99
I think so. Discussed in other threads, this desktop three year old i5 mobo has had power surges. Perhaps the infamous blown capacitors? (though I don't see any bulging capacitors).
I've changed the NIC land line ethernet card and it worked "for a while" but now yellow warning icon for 'limited...

Overvoltage protection for Seasonic S12 600 watt power supply ? by
Skybuck
Hello,
A power company in the Netherlands caused a voltage "punch" of 300
volts in some cities.
(Damaging many computers, magnetrons, tv's, etc )
The normal voltage level is 220 volts.
Is the Seasonic S12 600 watt power supply able to survive 300 volts ?

HDD LED panel (bezel) lights by
dilbert firestorm
Since no one is selling HDD panel lights, it looks like I'll have to
make my own.
Here's the thing, I don't want those leds to stick out like a sore thumb
on the bezel.
what's the best way to do this?

Pentium 4 mother board by
dilbert firestorm
This is an intermediate upgrade for my OS/2 Warp Pentium III 1ghz pc.
the reason for the upgrade is to install an AGP-4x video card, Nvidia
GT7300.
I tried to install it on the P3 DFI motherboard, it locked up at boot.
I read that apparently the voltage was an issue for some mobos when...

Build advice, please by
Nil
I'm starting to plan the build of my next desktop computer, to replace
my venerable XP box built in 2006. It still works fine, but I'm finding
an increasing number of programs that require Win 7 or later. I've
already bought a copy of Win7-64. Technology has changed since the last
time I went...

Hard Drive Performance comparison by
Charlie Hoffpauir
I'm wondering what is more important in comparing HDD performance. For
example, I have two 3 TB HDDs, one WD and one Seagate. The Seagate is
model ST3000DM001, the WD model WD3000FZEX.
The WD has faster access and higher burst rate, but the Seagate has
higher transfer rate. Here are the results...

device bluetooth paring with 2 computers? by
lew
Can I pair a device with 2 computers at the same time; & can I use
the same bluetooth dongle at the 2 computers (not at the same time).
In the meantime, can the device be paired with a couple of bluetooth
capable tablets at the same time for use at different occasions?
I did read that bluetooth...

Can't delete a desktop icon in W8.1 by
Rebel1
I received an email with a zip file attached. I saved it to the desktop,
and unzipped it. It contained two files: Filename.html and
Filename_files. I double-clicked on the html file just to make sure it
displayed properly, which it did in FF.
I then closed FF and attempted to delete the desktop...

Using Task Manager to find cause of hard drive activity by
Rebel1
Every once in a while, my Firefox browser becomes non responsive to
mouse inputs; this could last for as much as 60 seconds. Every time this
happens, the hard drive activity light is on. The Performance tab of TM
shows the Activity Time for the C: as 100%. When I switch to the
Processes tab,...

Watts a good power supply? by
Al Drake
I'm not looking to go cheap here. I look on Amazon at some 1000W units
that are very inexpensive and seem to get good reviews. I always try to
go top shelf out of the gate but this time I'm wondering as there are
some units that also go Big BUCKS. I have had good luck with
SilverStone, I have a...

AGP video card: BFG Tech Geforce 7300gt AGP by
dilbert firestorm
does anyone know what the bus voltage specs are? all it would say is
that it fits in a AGP 2.0/3.0 or universal bus slot. no mention if its
3.0 or 5.0 voltage.
I'd ask BFG Tech, but they seem to have gone belly up.

help - is it monitor or video card problem by
Yes[_2_]
I posted this in the sister a.c.h newsgroup and got no reply. Hope for
a better response here.
I have an Asus 24" VS248H-P R LED monitor and a PowerColor (Radeon)
HD6750 1GB DDR3 video card. Two or three times now over a six month
period, I noticed that the monitor screen will have a...

A different question about power supplies by
Charlie Hoffpauir
My situation is that AC power is so unreliable out here that I have
UPS units on everything electronic that I need to keep running (TV,
Satellite, DVR, WISP, both computers). However, "some" of the newer
power supplies, apparently the very efficient ones, won't tolerate the
square wave that the UPS...
