Solid State Disk question by
Boyan Brezinsky
I got the MegaRam 2000 solid state disk by Imperial Technology for
testing. Unfortunately, I can't access their site
(www.imperialtech.com). Does anybody know what is the maximum sustained
transfer rate by this unit? So far I am not impressed - with a 2Gbps
Fibre Channel link I can't get more than...

How do I configure RAID on a FC5300? Is there a console? by
Leo Unacalx
Hello All. I just purchased an EMC Clariion FC5300 (also known as
Dell 650F). I've got an 005-044993 RAID storage processor--w/ lots of
cache. I've got Cable/HyperTerm plugged into RJ12.. 9600/8/1/even,
hardware flow control----but nothing comes up. I can see a cursor

Question about Infortrend (maybe more generic iSCSI) by
Andrew Gideon
I've been looking at the Infortrend iSCSI/SATA units, and there's one
glaring aspect: none have dual controllers (for failover).
Is there some fundamental reason for this, perhaps in the nature of iSCSI?
Thanks...

Multipath Failover & the HSG80 by
Bill Nadzam
Hello to the group, and I hope there is a kind sole out there with
insight into the working of the HSG80.
Need the Rosetta Stone, AKA: inside information on the SCSI command
required by a system driver to switch a device from Port to Port. I
located a small statement in a LINUX users group that...

2-20TB solution advice needed by
[email protected]
I'm looking to build a 2TB solution scalable to about 20TB. The needs
are not numerous, and they are pretty well-defined:
1. RAID5 w/ hot-swappable drives
2. Support linux clients
3. On a budget
Performance is not very important, but reliability and availability is.
I need direction for my...

What's reasonable RAID 5 performance? by
[email protected]
I have a nice new server with 15,000RPM SCSI drives in a hardware RAID 5
configuration. I may be wrong, but I don't think it's performing properly
at all. The question is, what's reasonable?
When using large (500MB) files to swamp out cache effects, I'm getting
roughly 12MB/sec (it varies quite...

Troubleshooting SANs by
[email protected]
I work for a consulting firm, and have begun to do troubleshooting on
small SANs, mostly HP MSA1500cs based.
Many times the problem the customer is talking about is some vague
intermittent slowness issue or something like that. In cases like
this, my troubleshooting goes something like this:

building nas server for home network by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm in need for (budget) storage at home. After doing a little
research i decided to build my own NAS server.
I've got an "old" AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with one GB of ram, so that will
be more than sufficient i guess.
I've been thinking of doing the following, but i wonder if it's the
best way...
