Length of network cord by

I know 300 ft is the limit for cat5, but I wonder if you are using a
100 ft cord when it could be 60 ft would effect the performance much?

I have a Western Digital WD5000AAKX hard drive that I was using via an adaptor connected to an external USB port.
One day the drive could no longer be seen by my PC running Windows XP. And also not by my PC running Windows 10. At least not completely. From my desktop I can click it off so I can...

RAM Slack? by
Davej
I have been reading some stuff about digital forensics and have seen several comments about "RAM slack" where supposedly some old OS versions were so idiotic that patches of RAM larger than the desired file to be saved, were written to disk. To me this sounds utterly absurd.

Took 3 months to get a keyboard by
Flasherly[_2_]
First one was an Ebay scam out of China.
Crypto- Ebay/China -Currency.
The seller first lists, waits for the buyer's take, then pulls out and
disappears with the buyer's money.
Ebay facilitates the scam with its 2-month adjudication policy:
2-month's shipping time, exclusively, for Chinese...

When I reboot, it sometimes works fine, but usually everything starts
up (fans, leds etc, I can hear the HD spinning up and the HD led stays
on), but there is no "click" and the BIOS screen does not...

I just bought a firestick by

I got a firestick for my niece hoping we could drop cable and phone.
She is complaining that the programs she is trying to watch are
pausing in the middle like a Youtube video sometimes does.
We have 100Mbs down and 5Mbs up. My router is a RT-AC66U and it is
located about 30 ft from the TV.
She...

What can be used to boot an older computer? by

I still rebuild, upgrade and use older computers. To get things started
on them, you need some sort of boot device. When you have the basic
hardware, and want to install a hard drive, you first need to boot the
machine to setup the hard drive. In the old days, you're stick a
bootable DOS disk in...
