SDLT wear & tear (small files vs. big files) by
George Sarlas
Hello... I'm a storage newbie, so please forgive me if this is a
stupid question.
I've got a new StorageTek Library (L40) with an SDLT 320 drive in it.
I am using Veritas NetBackup DataCenter for Windows 2000.
My question has to do with wear and tear on the drive heads. My
previous library (also...

sharing HBAs between disk and tape by
Keith Michaels
Can a single fibrechannel HBA be shared between disk and tape?
This is for a Windows 2000 fileserver that has an HBA for SAN disk
but will now run backup and/or HSM to fibrechannel drives that
are also SAN-attached. If the HBA can be shared can it support
simultaneous access to more than one tape...

Add host - EMC Clariion (Navisphere) by
ohaya
Hi,
Using EMC Navisphere, when you add or create a new host, Navisphere asks
for a 16-byte piece of information. I have the impression that this is
suppose to be the 8-byte WWNN concatenated with the 8-byte WWPN for the
HBA port on the host, something...

R. Damian Koziel
This is a very simple question but one for which I'm finding
conflicting answers. What is the (theoretical) maximum number of
devices on a FC-AL?
Here's a sampling:
127:
"On a single FC-AL loop up to 127 devices can be attached, and they
are visible by simply plugging them...

Introduction to SAN by
Marcel
Hi all,
I'm currently monitoring this ng because I need to learn some things about
san. The differences between SAN and NAS are clear to me so that does not
need
any additional explanation.
My interests in SAN were raised when I received some hardware from a friend
and started to read about it....

fileserver backup: ndmp or network backup? by
Christoph Peus
Hi all,
at the moment our 1.5 TB fileserver holds about 3.5 million files, which
are backed up via network. Now I have to plan an upgrade to at least 3TB
and consider to invest in an ndmp-capable filer. But is nmdp really
faster in this environment ? (if the underlying RAID-systems are equally...
