Expire savesets in Legato Networker... by
[email protected]
I am trying to figure out how to expire savesets in Legato networker.
I am reading the Admin guide and see that it says to change the
expiration of a saveset by using the -e option of the save command. I
look at the save command and see the options I think I need. The -e
with the date I want to...

Error Code A on IBM LTO2 Tape Drives by
Will
I've noticed on almost all Scalar 100 and Dell 136T tape libraries running
with IBM LTO2 drives, that you will occasionally get a flashing A error
code. After a lot of research with ADIC on this problem, we were told that
in most cases this is caused by a drive recalibration, and it is normal...

Common sharing of Open Systems and Mainframe data by
Cooler
Is anyone aware of a product or products that will allow for the
seamless sharing of both of these platforms?
I know HDS has a product that used to be called "RapidXchange" that
allow for the reading of open systems data on a mainframe.
Thanks.

Dead Clariion SPSes ? by
Kaoru Nakamura
I have a pair of the single-RJ12 jack Clariion DPER/DAER SPS battery backup
units, but neither of them will turn on. It sounds like a hardware issue,
but out of a stack of around 12 of them, none would turn on, or show any
sign of life. I've taken one of them apart and tried disconnecting...

Question about Caviar 2340 HDD by
Paul Allen Panks
I have an old Caviar 2340 HDD. It has 341.2 MB of storage, 1010 cyclindes,
and 55 sectors. I'd like to use it as a secondary slave drive, but Windows
XP seems to be having difficulty recognizing the drive. I have even tried
Datalife Guard Tools by Western Digital. It will sometimes recognize...

Suggestions for planned bonnie++ benchmark by
Jochen Kaiser
Dear all,
I've posted some time ago and reported problems with latency on our SAN.
We've come to the conclusion that we've to run a benchmark, we've
suggested bonnie++ and our Datacenter has welcomed that idea.
We mainly host DB2 Databases on the SAN and have an application which
writes (and...

Guillaume Dargaud
I _had_ two internal disks with lots of data.
One drive (F:) had one 60Gb NTFS partition and I wanted to change its cluster size.
The other drive (L:) had 11 various linux partitions and one 172Gb FAT32 partition.
So I moved everything from F: to L:

Reliability of fibre channel disks vs. SCSI disks? by
[email protected]
I've been told, but find it hard to believe,
that fibre channel disks are quite a bit more
reliable than SCSI disks.
My own limited experience with fibre channel disks
is that they fail at a similar rate to SCSI disks.
In the past I've used arrays that contain SCSI disks.
At my new job we use...

Best backup strategy when there is lots of re-structuring on HDD? by
Peter Frank
Hi,
I know there is backup software that allows incremental and
differential backups so that it isn't always necessary to backup
everything even if only some data were added or changed.
The problem is that in my case there is also a lot of re-structuring
going on with my data, i.e. data move from...

The background - I need to get a lot of data onto a lot of drives as
quickly as possible, and it has to be done via 100Mbps ethernet. The
ethernet is my current bottleneck and I intend to...
