DVD-R Data Storage by Ben
I have a Pioneer DVR-A06U, which I got to store data files, backup data etc. I was told at Compusa that the CD-R format was a good media for that purpose. I would like some advice as to which software would be a good choice to use with the drive.... Nero? Roxio or other suggestions. If I am...

DAS & NAS Terabyte RAID By Real-Storage by Real-Storage
Hello NewsGroup, I've seen some posts debating the merits of building your RAID or buying your own RAID. I like to point out the benefits of purchasing your storage needs through Real-Storage. I think the benefits are very clear. Thanks for your time.

Feedback on Sun SE 6120 series or similar by Jochen Kaiser
Hello, we're looking forward to buying a project specific SAN solution. The SAN should be able to support our pilot, production and maybe even our two test environments. (total of ~2.5TB) We're currently sharing a HDS Thunder 9570 with other projects and have just migrated from a heavily used EMC...

SAN as a Back-Up Device by Linux Penguin
Currently we are experiencing alot of problems with tape backup and I have had some thoughts. Is it possible to purchase a SAN with a huge amount of disk space (say 1 terrabyte), then partition the SAN storage up and then backup the data from various servers to specific partition on the SAN. This...

Zones and RSCN by Jeff Specoli
Hello, I'm new to SANs so please excuse my ignorance. I've been reading about zoning and RSCNs. From what I've read RSCNs are sent to all members of a zone after a change in the port status occurs on a port in that zone. For example, if all servers are in the same zone, and one of them is...

Server as an iSCSI target by idunno
I would like to connect DAS storage on a server to other servers via iSCSI and TOE cards and I am a little confused about options I may or may not have in doing this. From what I am seeing this is not readily available in the windows environment or utilizing TOE cards like the Intel Pro 1000 T IP...

Newbie, whats a Director, and JBOD? by Ash
Hi, I'm very new to the storage technology, and have been doing some readings to understand the basics of fiber channel technology. I'm stuck with these two basic terms: fiber channel director, and JBOD, what are they? when do you use a director as opposed to a switch? Will appreciate if you...

any comments on Vixel's SAN fabric switch ? by Sto Rage©
We are planning to setup a cheaper SAN using ATA based disk arrays from NexSan for nearline/archive/disk based backup storage. These NexSan's come with 2GB FC ports and hence wanted feedback on Vixel's 9000 fabric switch. How easy is it to configure and maintain? We anticipate about 3 arrays and 2...

Clariion/Dell RAID software needed by [email protected]
Hello, I have a Dell 650F/Clariion FC5300 RAID system with no software to configure it. This must be a "purchase" item, as I can't seem to find it available for download anywhere on the web. Does anyone have a pre-owned version available for sale that contains the above files? A...

setting up LVS 4800 RAID 5 by Brian McCrary
Hello, I've looked everywhere for an answer to this, so I apologize if there is already an answer posted. I recently picked up a LVS 4800 and have succesfully set it up with Solaris and the JNI SBus cards. I am wanting to setup a RAID 5 but it looks like the maximum amount of disks supported per...

Disabling disk cache? by Nuno Magalhaes
Is it possible to disable hardware disk cache? Not the software cache. I can read files with no software cache, opening them without buffering (FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING) but I can't avoid the hardware cache. Is it possible to get the hardware disk cache size? Or even disable it? Thanks a lot.

formatting compact flash by Hari
Hi, I have a doubt while formatting a compact flash card to fat 16 file system using windows OS(XP). I'm not going to use compact flash as a booting device. If that is the case will the first sector will be a MBR as in the case of hard disk or will it be a boot record as in the case of floppy disk....
