Does the AGP version of Nvidia 6200 have h.264 decoder? by
PC Guy
I swapped an MX440 (64 mb) video card for an Evga GeForce 6200 (256 mb)
video card because VLC can't really play large h.264 video files
smoothly on my system.
I updated VLC to the latest version (2.0.1 I think).

Google hacks your Gmail account to steal personal data by
Naum Zahran
"In other words, Google is taking the intimate personal data in your
Gmail account, using it to spy more effectively on you, and also using
it for its own (hoped for) gain. That sounds pretty evil. Although the
company doubtless has a canned response for why it took this step
without asking...

Blown speakers by
Motor T
I mistakenly plugged the wrong power cord into my Creative Gigaworks
T40 speakers. One with 120v 60hz input and 12v 1.2A output. The
speakers made a humming noise for a few seconds and then went dead.
The speakers are almost brand new. No one in town seems to fix
computer speakers. Are they...

What's important for video playback? by
PC Guy
If we're talking about video-card performance only in terms of video
playback (playing hi-def MKV files using VLC for example) and if we're
NOT talking at all about anything to do with video games, then what sort
of hardware acceleration or processing is done for video decoding /
playback on the...

"CPU temperature" in BIOS - what circuitry is involved? by
Orson Cart
I was given a PC because it "crashed after a while".
When I peeked in the BIOS settings, I noticed the CPU temperature
was too low, e.g. 19 degrees. The fan seemed to be going pretty
slow, so I guess it just overheated. I set the fan speed to full on,
and replaced the CPU (in case it was toasted),...

inside of a harddrive by
jinxy[_2_]
I recently cracked open an old dead 80GB HDD. There is a small black box about the size of a die. Inside of this little box there are small black balls, a bit smaller than a BB. What are they, and what is their function? Just curious.
Thanks -J

New build .. recommend graphics card please by
johns
My present system is Intel Core2 Duo with a GTX 275 GT video card.
It's pretty good, but aging. So I'm starting to collect parts. What do
you recommend for a high-end gaming video card? I'm looking at the
560s. Some have 2 fans. I suspect they are noisy. My 275 is whisper
quiet always.

Laptop Memory Question by
Don[_22_]
Hello,
I have one of those barebone/mini PCs that takes 204 pin DDR3 memory.
The specs specify 800 megahertz DDR3 memory. DDR3 800 is getting harder
to find. Can I substitute 1066 megahertz memory instead? Or is the
faster memory incompatible?

Are there any tablet PC's that can run Windows XP? by
XP Guy
Are there any tablet PC's that can run Windows XP?
And I mean can they *run* XP.
I'm not asking if or which ones come with XP installed (obviously none
do any more).
I would guess that the list would include any tablets that are being
sold today with Windows 7 - because I don't think that any...

How does hotel wi-fi work, and why does it need a browser to log in? by

how does hotel wi-fi work, and why does it need a browser to log in?
It's strange--just like the title says, hotel Wi-fi and a lot of private business wi-fi needs a browser to activate your internet connection, with a password, but when you flush the cache and close the browser, when you reopen...

If it's real... Quite cool IMO. It resembles the reunion of the

apparently made friends with some wild lions (probably on a

Anyone know how this thing gets turned on? I now have two pc's which

I am using an older and very stable Linksys WRT54G router and have DHCP

This creates a problem, since the 8 video clients...
