Java by
Robin Bignall
I know this is slightly OT but there's a fund of knowledge in this
group. When I got the notification for Java run time 26 I went to
uninstall 25, as I do. I'm methodical about this so was surprised to
find 24 still there, too. I started the uninstall of 24 and, hours
later, was still...

Windows... 32-bit versus 64-bit? by
John Doe
Is there any piece of modern hardware that would not work (out of
the box using the included drivers) with my 32-bit Windows XP?
How about software?
I am wondering if "64-bit Windows" is just technobabble marketing
speak.
Thanks.

Just for fun... My systems over the years by
Mac Cool
I was cleaning out my docs folder and found this list of systems I've
owned over the years, thought someone might get a kick out of it. I also
wrote down the main games I was playing at the time, if any. My first
system was built for me by a neighbor around 1992ish. Prior to that I had
been...

OT Ancient TI programmable calculator with red LED display? by
John Doe
Anybody else had one? I don't remember the year, but it was a long
long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. It had a rechargeable
battery pack that lasted only a short while driving a red LED
display. I vaguely recall it had several registers ABCDEF that could
contain values, or something like...

Updating my '06 machine, feedback appreciated by
Mac Cool
Built my current machine in '06 and it's time for an update. Here is my
list of parts I'm considering and I'd like any feedback. I do some
design with CorelDraw, otherwise it's used for basic tasks, no gaming.
There are two motherboards listed and I can't decide if it's worth the
extra $75 for...

RadeOn 3300 has issues playing youtube video's and such. by
Skybuck Flying[_7_]
Hello,
The RadeOn 3300 integrated graphics chipset seems to have problems playing
youtube video's and other webbased video's probably x264/h264/webm and such.
Blocks are visible, tearing of blocks is visible and green masks are visible
and other video distortions/artificats... it's pretty...

I nominate Skybuck - Flying for a future Darwin Award. by
Shaun
This guy is sooooo stupid, he will likely accidentally kill himself in the
near future doing something only a complete idiot would do.
Please see:
http://www.darwinawards.com/
This web site will explain it. He will like do himself in by natural
selection and do us all a favor.

Circuit question by
Man-wai Chang
I found a un-used 6.2V AC adaptor, and would like use it to power a USB hub.
We all knew that USB takes 5V as input.
I am going to solder the 2 output wires of the AC adaptor directly onto
the circuit board of the USB hub after removing its DC input socket.
The 3 "o" symtbols represent the...

Hunched over the Computer by

I am thinking of using some sort of hanging external monitor with my
laptop so that I can hunch a bit less. What ideas have been proposed
as the ideal setup for proper posture for all-day computer users?
Thanks.

I think my computer drained my camera battery by
Metspitzer
I took a few photos and dumped them to the computer. I just left the
camera hooked up. At the end of the day, I shut the computer down. I
did not check the camera battery level the next morning. I just put
the camera in its' case. About a week later I went to use the camera,
and it was dead.
