Pentium V (Prescott etc) Status? by
oodler
Does anyone know the current status of the Pentium V/Prescott?
I've been waiting patiently for a computer to break the upper 2-3GHz
barrier, but have heard Intel's been having trouble with heat management so
the release of the Prescott and the Tejas (if that's the right name)
processor models...

D850MV, does it support Wake on Lan with the built in NIC? by
dg
A friend of mine has a D850MV motherboard and is trying to make it Wake on
Lan, so far unsuccessful. We have experimented with other machines with
great success so we know the general function of WOL. He is using the built
in NIC and from the documentation we have read we can't really tell if...

Itanium experts- Building Itanium 1 systems from old parts by
Matt Simis
Hi,
Id like to build an old Itanium 1 system. Ive seen cheap Itanium 1 CPUs
floating around, usually from (then) CPQ or HP servers, supplied with what
appears to be VRM and heatsinks (no fans).
The problem is, of course, sourcing motherboards to put these into. Im
looking into perhaps salvaging...

Gaming benchmarks for A64-3000+ by
Yousuf Khan
The new Athlon 64-3000+ processor with 512K of L2 cache rather than 1024K
seems to be a pretty good gaming platform, beats the regular P4-3.2Ghz in 8
out of 9
tests.

More reports of 90nm heat problems by
Yousuf Khan
It looks like both Intel and AMD are having a tough time at keeping heat
down on the 90nm process. There's already been reports out that Intel may
have to lower the clock frequency of the Prescott at introduction. Now, even
AMD's famous SOI process doesn't seem to be having the desired effect it...

Recommendations for running P3 fanless in 1u server by
Ghazan Haider
I have a new VA Linux server that takes two 100fsb slot1 CPUs. I got
the SL37C CPU based on .25 micron, but has 512kb cache. The maximum
wattage is rated at 25W, which I'm not sure if I can run without the
fan. The fan that comes with the cpu sticks out a bit and I cant close
the 1u servers lid....

Ok...dumb question about system bus speed by
Lia
What is it?? I'm comparing laptops, one with a p4 1.6 ghz chip, and a
400mhz system bus speed, and the other one has a p4 2.0 ghz chip and a

2.4.x for AMD64 is being handled by an Intel programmer, Len Brown.
Also speculation that an AMD64 chip will be coming out from Intel by 2005.

Itanium - niche product ? by
Horst Gfrerer
http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1103-275625.html (2001)
My biggest fear is that Intel will come out with a 32-bit processor with
64-bit extensions because it is the right thing to do," Sanders said. "The
Itanium it turns out is a niche product...We are going to have a role in the
industry because we...

have changed, and I am moving to Hawaii where I wont ship my desktop,...

How to go from single P4 to dual Xeons without reinstalling OS ? by
Luke Piasecki
Hi,
I'll be upgrading to dual Xeons 3.0Ghz ( from single P4 2.4) in a few weeks
(running XP Pro).
I wonder if it's possible to just switch the motherboards and CPUs and if
the OS will automatically install the MP kernel, or will I have to reinstall
everything? I've got tons of software installed...

I looked a the chip, but that has no identification/specs written on

IPF non-temporal cache hints by
Adrian
Is there any language support for the non-temporal
cache hints, e.g. ldfd.nta. Some sort of pragma
or Fortran directive??
I've been working with small pieces of assembler,
but to be honest, I'm too old and too lazy to
(re)learn assembler.
thanks
