I'm retarded by
Kris Kringle Lick A Pringle
So, I got a new DVD+-RW/+-R drive and plugged into my tower, and now when I
boot, my computer doesn't recognize my DVD drive nor my pre-existing CD-RW.
Am I having BIOS difficulties? The troubleshooting page in the manual that
came with the drive says to consult with the PC manufacturer,...

i-go juice for Gateway? by
kirsty
Hi i recently purchased a Gateway 450 in the States. I travel quite a bit so
I would like to be able to use my laptop on the airplanes. I have read that
the only certified power adaptor that is allowed on most airlines is the
i-go series. I know that this comes with a variety of different plugs to...

I/O Device Error by
Boris[_5_]
I didn't know about this group until I did a 'get new groups' in my news
reader. Nice to see some familiar Dell faces here!
I've got a couple of old Gateways (P2 and P4) laying around that I got from
my dad. The P4 is an E4600, 1.6MHz, with 256MB of PC800 rambus, but I just
ordered another...

I/O Magic 8x DVD +-RW by
Kris Kringle Lick A Pringle
I just have to say that this product sucks. The DVD-ROM that came with my
Gateway just petered out, so I went to Office Depot and picked this one up.
It's was $148 less rebates.
Anyway, either it doesn't do a greta job being the master drive with a CD-RW
slave attached, or the damned thing...

I/O shields for Gateway LP mini tower case by
Ben Myers
I have a Gateway LP mini tower here, attractive looking and in first rate
physical condition. Replacing the power supply is no problem for me, but has
anyone found a more modern high-end Pentium 3 or Pentium 4 I/O shield to fit
properly in the case? The opening appears to be a little small for...

Icon Arrangement by
Scott
I'm trying to figure out what happened to my GW 700XL desktop with
XP Pro. I tried to update my 8-30-01 NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 video
drivers with the latest one from Nvidia's website. However, I got a
blue screen on the re-boot. I rolled back to the original drivers,
and that worked, except my...

Icons In Win 95 by
Scott
On my Gateway P5-90 (yes, still running) with Win95a, I was copying something
over my home router to another computer, and the desktop went blank. Then the
desktop icons were rearranged to the auto arrange layout. While auto arrange is
not actually checked, whenever I reboot, the icons return to...

It it required the users to input the 3 code lines from the processor
label into the appropriate fields, then it calculated all possible info
out of these values.
It was not scanner via software from the working system it needed the...

I think I have a problem with the onboard IDE controller of my six years old

don't show up. (There is nothing in the bios) and when I boot, I get the
message "Operating System not found". The two devices connected to bus 1...

IDE vs. PCI IDE Controller Set-Up Question by
Flippy
I have installed a second hard drive in my system, but am having some
difficulty getting it set up to work correctly with Win98SE.
After some research and trial and error, I have discovered the problem
seems to be related to trying to run Win98 in a resolution higher than
VGA while having the...

Identifying An IP Address by
Scott
Is there some kind of utility that will allow me to look up an IP address..
for example: 72.89.196.14 1...and determine something about where it came
from? Page stats on my website give me an IP address, and I'd like to
get a little better idea where the visitor came from.
Thanks!

Identifying eMachines motherboard by

Hi
I have an eMachines 3260, and I'm trying to identify the motherboard
(ideally without opening the case - it's in an awkward place and used almost
all the time).
I found out once from emachineupgraders.info, but I didn't make a note at
the time and now their site seems to have disappeared and...

Identifying SN & parts #'s for Gateway computers by

I recently went to Gateways site to look up my notebook battery to see if it
was part of the recall. As I looked at the back of my battery I found 13
different 'numbers'. There were two numbers that were each identified as the
'model number.' Even my notebook computer has numerous stickers that...

IE and Win95 by
Scott
I have Paint Shop Pro on my Win95a system...200 MHz Pentium
with 96 mb RAM. I went to install Paint Shop Pro 8, but it requires
IE 5 or above (+ Win98) to install it. Do I want to put IE 5 or 6
on a Win95 machine? I suspect it would slow it down.
Thanks!
Scott.
