Lately my computer been buzzing during playback. by
[email protected]
Hello,
Not sure what this is but lately my PC is buzzzing during playback of sound.
Like short moments my system seems to hang.
Granted it's old and running a lot of stuff...
This freezing/buzzing mostly happens when World of Warships is running but I started to notice it with other...

CyberDecks by
Se7en[_2_]
I've been learning about people making their own "Pre-Matrix
CyberDecks" out of used computer parts and old Commadore64
cases. Example: https://n-o-d-e.net/cyberdeck64.html
Has anyone made their own cyberdeck? I plan to go dumpster diving for
old parts soon and hope to make one. Not a lot of...

Threadripper vs Epyc (frequencies) by
[email protected]
16-core 1950x has base 3400 MHz,
but the 32-core Epyc 7601 is only 2200 MHz
Now for same power, then I would expect Threadripper to have 3100 MHz base.
I realise the Epyc is made to flog all cores 24 hours a day, and is
going to be in pizza box with tiny fans.
So is it that Threadripper is for...

is CPU temperature 24 Celsius credible? by
[email protected]
I found a nice-looking PC left out for trash collection, took it home and tested
it. It has Corsair water cooler (perhaps H60 model) and i7-3770 CPU, with
77 W for TDP. When I go to monitor in BIOS, it shows only 24 degrees for
CPU temperature.
Often when I have gone to BIOS hardware monitor in...

Ping Paul - Old CMOS issue? by
MrTsquare
Evening, Paul. Acouple of years ago you helped me understand (alittle)
how the ASUS Motherboard in my relatively
new ASUS build might contribute to the premature failure of the CMOS
battery. Based on your advise and my
unwillingness to try to return my new motherboard for this...

Intel "best generation" Core slogan by
[email protected]
I saw a consumer electronics store advertising **** with:
Intel best generation Core CPU
eh?
Well they seemed to given up on tic-toc and have Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake and
Skylake_X selling concurrently.
So is Joe Sixpack going to shun a Skylake-X think it is only a 6?

Automatic wire strippers! by
John Doe[_9_]
A few months ago, a friend let me use his IRWIN
Self-Adjusting Wire Strippers. Sold! I figured they would be
well over $50 but they are less than $20. Should have bought
one when they were first available. Wish I had had one
decades ago. Would have saved so much time and tremendous
amount of...

SSD card blows up harddisk or part of motherboard ?!? by
[email protected]
Hello,
One of my harddisks just failed ? I am not sure yet, but it remains undetected, or partially damage to motherboard.
I think what happened was as follows:
1. I may have had haste, I pushed a flash/ssd card into the card reader, but it was stuck in diagonal.
Because it has long metal...

Razzle Dazzle Trackball by

Good deal just got hot in my little hands. Celebrations.
Amazon private NYC dealer for a new -Not Refurbished- Marble Trackman.
Cost me $22, which is normally closer to $30 for most (including tax
which I escaped). Four buttons easy-pie assignable/programmable to
Logitech's limits of...

Hard Disk Slow Down After Image Recovery by
John B. Smith
Today my XP went off the tracks. I think it booted normally but when I
used Agent and Eudora to get hearders and check mail at the same time,
something got messed up bigtime. Agent seemed to freeze, but did work
after a while. Tried a reboot, things got stalled when my bat was
saving email. I...

base clock only 96.6 MHz by
[email protected]
I was given a dead PC: if you pressed the on button, the fans just flicked
half a turn then stopped. The mainboard does not have a standby power LED.
I changed the power supply - same thing. So then I removed CMOS battery.
It only showed 0.2 volts. I hope it is not one of those faults that...

Laptop Keyboard by
cropduster
I have this Lenovo T61p (actually two of them) which I pulled out of the
trash. Put in a HD and 3GB RAM and Linux Mint and it works pretty well,
except that the 'h' key doesn't respond unless I really jackhammer it, and
then I copy/paste it into gedit (Linux notepad) for further use.
I figured...
