so what is the deal with maxtor's bad reputation ??? by
Lorenzo Sandini
I have had many different HDDs in my computers for the last 10 years,
and never suffered any hdd death or loss of data. Maybe I was just lucky.
I haven't been too worried about being at the bleeding edge of access
times and sustained transfer speeds, and I have tried P-ATA RAID0 with
various...

NAS with USB support? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I know there are many not-so-expensive NAS devices out there to use at
home, like f.e. the new Dlink DNS-323. The thing is --and i know the
dns-323 doesn't support this-- that i would like to have a usb
connection when i'm close to the nas device and (obviously) a LAN
connection when i'm in...

DVD-RAM File System limitations? by
DjTweed
Does DVD-RAM have the same file system limitations that
CDR/DVD-R/DVD+R have? Like 7 directories max depth, 32 character file
names, etc?
I need to back up 500gb of MP3's and I'm really tired of zipping them
into 700mb chuncks, and burning them to CD-R. (In order to preserve
the directory...

Current Pending Sector Count by
Joe Kotroczo
Hello,
I assume when it says "Warning" in "Current Pending Sector Count",
that's a bad sign, right?
It's a WD30EZRX, the actual values a Normalized: 200, Worst: 66,
Threshold: 0, Value: 63 Sectors.
Reason enough to send it in? It's under warranty until mid 2014.

Another Ghost 2003 question - Simple by
Tom Jackson
I'm brand new to Ghost 2003 and after a successful clone on my brothers
computer (bigger hard drive) I thought it would make a good backup for
my new Win2K machine. What I want to do sounds simple but fails. This
machine is tied to a router/switcher along with a FreeBSD server and
another smp...

Installing XP on Sata Raid - ARRGGH !! by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm trying to install XP on a Fujitsu Scenic P300, using a PCI SATA
Raid card. I've got the right drivers on floppy, press F6, load the
drivers, choose partition etc, XP starts to install. Gets as far as
the first reboot - then it can't see the drive anymore ! Anyone seen
this behaviour...

.NET Framework needed for Partition Magic 8.0, Drive Image 7.0x by
Timothy Daniels
It has been mentioned a few times here that Drive Image 7.0x
needs Microsoft's .NET Framework in order to run. (See Drive
Image's FAQ at:

FAT32 vs NTFS file size by
Woodchuck
I'm this has been asked many times before but I can't find an answer. I
noticed file size is limited to 4gig when HD is formatted to FAT32. What is
the file size limit for NFTS? And can a drive with data be converted... and
how? The reason I ask is I have drive "D" reserved for video...

Professional data recovery recommendation by

A newly referred customer (as opposed to someone who's been exposed my
repeated exhortations to back up all data religiously) just brought me a
Maxtor Romulus 60 GB drive which has unbacked-up critical data on it. When
I run Powermax it reports a drive recal failure (error UK0E02) & aborts

A dying HDD in a very old 15" MacBook Pro from 2008? by
Ant[_3_]
Hi.
I noticed a client's 15" MacBook Pro responding slowly, locked up with
Firefox and couldn't kill it, and shut down. Even booting up after doing
a force shut down with the power button was slow. I decided to check the
internal HDD with SMARTReporter v2.7.3 (green and pass results, but...

Restoring from Macrium Reflect by

I had made a system image backup using Macrium Reflect. I recently had a
misadventure with trying to install SP1 onto Windows 7, which screwed it
up completely, so I had to restore from Macrium. After 25 hours
restoring from a USB hard disk, it finally finished restoring. I tried
rebooting from...

Best (and Cheapest) External Hard Drive Suggestions by
[email protected]
Well, that about says it all. I have another thread going here, and
maybe I should ask if it's wiser to order peripherals from the company
that made your machine (in my case, IBM ThinkPad).
Is an external hard drive any less proprietary than say an external
floppy drive? There are some...
